Location: Ponder, TX | I tried finding an illustrated parts breakdown for a '56 Plymouth headlight bucket on the Internet, but no success. Does anyone have one to post, or know where it might be found on the net? Between my project and the parts car I can't salvage enough detail parts to make two good assemblies, but I'd like to see what all I need so I can search for good parts. Thanks! |

Location: Muskego, WI | I thought the headlight buckets were pretty universal for the Mopars of the era, so finding parts shouldn't be too tough. The "bucket" is aluminum with steel rivets and brackets, so there was usually some galvanic corrosion between the parts. I simply riveted the parts back together for my '56 Imperial. |

I thought the headlight buckets were pretty universal for the Mopars of the era, so finding parts shouldn't be too tough. The "bucket" is aluminum with steel rivets and brackets, so there was usually some galvanic corrosion between the parts. I simply riveted the parts back together for my '56 Imperial.
There was a different PN for the 55-56 Plymouths and the 56 Dodges, etc. BUT 1626 512 crossed all lines in 1955 if you were looking for a good used headlight "SHELL", say from John at Big M.

The factory service manual had almost nothing that helped establish which parts are needed. The things I'm missing are the springs, several screws and two nylon-thread nut plates.
I suspected that they were similar or the same over several years, but one I got off my Fury parts car looked to be off a different manufacturer and nothing like a Chrysler product. At least now I can look for other models that will work.

Location: Ponder, TX | I really appreciate the links that identify the parts by the proper nomenclature. With that info I did a search and found a supplier(Auveco) that had dozens of different types of adjuster parts for dozens of different brands of cars. None were exactly the same as the '56 OEM parts, but I found nylon nuts and 1/4-28 adjuster screws that will do the job. I'll do with them what I've had to do with so many of the hard-to-find parts...make my own brackets to attach the modern, matching parts to the shell!
By the way, they also have springs that match the one badly rusted spring I had. The spring anchor pin will also be a homemade part. |
