hi guys, my 55 dodge engine project is near completion. my plan is to paint the engine the factory silver and valve covers red. I can still get the Chrysler red paint through mopar performance parts. my question is what silver paint do I use? is there a difference in shade? trying to keep the original appearance. thanks in advance!!!

.
Stay away from the red valve covers. The 270 hemi valve covers were silver. ONLY the 56 and 57 Dodge 315 and 325 D500 hemis had red valve covers. Your air cleaner should be black.

Dave, I thought that color combo looked pretty good (ive seen your engine) I probably will go all silver. so will it be best to use aluminum engine paint?

My 315 cu in D500 was probably rebuilt at some point so it came to me in re-builders blue. One of the first things that I had to do on the engine was replace the water pump. While I had that apart, I used some Tremclad (like Rustoleum) Gloss aluminum. I think used brush on but it might have been a spray can. I don't remember exactly. Both gloss aluminum.
Here is my engine after the water pump replacement:
As things progressed I painted more and more of the engine with this Gloss Aluminum. Again, sometimes brush on, some times spray.
Here are a couple of photos. I haven't done much/any engine painting this year.
