Location: San Antonio, TX | OK, for the purists just look away... nothing to see here.
I did look around a bit, did some searches and not a whole lot came up. So I am considering going with a 392 in my 57 De Soto 4dr hdtp. The motor is out of the De Soto... I even have the front clip off. The 392 came out of a 57 Imperial. Anybody here ever done this? Or know of a write up on it. I just want to know what I'm up against if I do decide to swap out the 341 for a 392. I also have the tranny that came with the Imp 392. I also have the drive shaft and rear end from a 58 New Yorker.

Location: So. Cal | The 392 should be able to mount to the same motor mounts and transmission, converter & plate as your DeSoto. Just pull the DeSoto motor and install the 392 in it's place. I recommend using the truck 4-bolt exhaust as the original '57 exhaust is the limiting factor that reduces it's output potential. And use a 30 degree angled oil filter. There really are no issues with making this swap, it's a bolt-in deal.
But the 4-bolt exhaust get's pretty tight in there so you may need to adjust those motor mounts a bit to make it fit well. But I found that a centered mount worked best on my car.

The 341 was taken apart for rebuild and the machine shop never finished and lost some parts. So I have an incomplete 341 and a running 392. |

Dave, you are a lucky guy to have those motors.

Nathan, what kind of 30 degree oil filter is it. Only available for the 392 or other motors, too

Location: So. Cal | It is sold by Hot Heads. They work with all the early hemi and hemi based poly motors, including DeSoto. They sell vertical down, forward, and 30 degree up versions.

Location: Peoples Republic of Oregon | Actually, that 30° mount does not fit on a 330-341 DeSoto without doing some whittling on an 'ear' on the block.....Recently tried to use one on a customer's engine.
I did not verify the fit prior to assembly of the block ('they' said it would fit...) and chose to not do any grinding on the assembled unit.
I'll offer photos of the area to anyone contemplating use on a 330-341. I have not checked the 276-291. |

As suggested in my Photo Posting hints thread, IRFANVIEW is what I use to resize my photos and/or convert .jpegs to jpgs. Easy to use and it's free.

| that app is amazing... btw... the only way to go... I think I am going to program an option to "set max size" and use the jpeg encoding to lower it as needed to meet the "size requirement". You can set the jpg encoding factor to whatever you want but you still cant be sure about the final size. |
