Location: Southeast US | Chrysler announced the D500 on Dec 22, 1955. The Cowl Tag on this one has a build date of 12 27 1955. Five days after the announcement! It's not the original color, but was restored nicely!.

Welcome on board.
With the D500 engines starting at D500-1001, your -1003 is the 3rd engine made. That and the Dec 27 build date say "Yes, very early build". If you can post a photo of the interior it should finally confirm what the 545 Trim code was.
56 Dodge Body Codes (836 = 2 dr Custom Royal V8 hardtop (hard to get that one mixed up):

56 Dodge Paint Codes (271) should be white, charcoal and oriental coral. The charcoal is missing on yours:

Location: DFW, TX | I saw those cars available, congratulations! Very interesting that it's such an early build. It was probably used as some kind of promotional vehicle in its past. Did it come with any documentation from CHS?
Thanks for sharing! |

A big thank you to 56D500boy for the information! Here is a picture of the interior. I'm afraid it won't help clear the controversy because it wasn't restored back original. Your D500 4-door is beautiful!!
Hey, jboymechanic! Thanks!
Hey 57burb! I don't have any history on the car. That is something I really would want to know. Is Chrysler Historical still active? How do I contact them?
Hey CaptGTX! You put up a good bid war! I thought you would get it in the final seconds! It shocked me that I did win the bid!
I have a few electrical gremlins to run down, but it should be easy fixin's!

Location: Lower Mainland BC | Your interior looks good, just not OE stock.
I have previously posted magazine articles about the 56 D500. I'm using my wife's mouseless tablet so I can't cut and paste the link.
Do a search on "D500 magazines" and my user name to find them.
