I have a question, maybe dumb but is the seal the same on a Ranco versus Robertshaw valve we have in our 1960 Belvedere?

We might need a photo of your valve because I for one only know Robertshaw as a manufacturer of natural gas appliance valves like this:

I read Robertshaw Model TM but I see "Ranco" (looks like). From the 1960 Mopar parts catalog, I think the OE PN is 2084 461. When I do a Google search on "2084461 Mopar heater valve", I get returns like these:

NOS 1960-64 Dodge DeSoto Plymouth CHRYSLER Heater Valve 2084461 H16 Ranco

https://www.ebay.com/p/7034978010

and

https://www.robertsmotorparts.com/heater-control-valve-chrysler-dodg...

All leading me to believe that the Robertshaw Model TM might just be a Ranco H16 clone. If so, you could either try the NAPA kit or just go with the Volvo valve off eBay

Yep, came to the same conclusion searching the web. Was kinda thinking of rebuilding the old one, why not? It only needs what I can see a new gasket under the plunger, the one that is 1" in diameter.

Yes, follow the links I posted years ago^, about my rebuilds, Robertshaw or Ranco, different design/manufacturers, same application and service parts (seals and plunger).

Sorry Sid. I was still heavily into Audis in 2012 and didn't see your post when I arrived here in 2016. (Although apparently I did see it in 2018 but the significance of the plate escaped me back then )

Your solution, with the new bolted plate to eliminate the breakable tabs, is great. You also identified that Robertshaw was also a heater valve supplier. I did not know that.

The thread with your solution:

http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=41712&...

Some of your photos showing your plate solution:

Your tapped and threaded plate:

Your modified Ranco:

Your modified Robershaw:

The Studebaker rebuild is still around:

This is what I was thinking of that the same kit services them both.

Looks like Napa has them as #6601000 but they don`t ship international so I´m in trouble here on the other side of the globe... Have to keep searching if I could find one closer to me.

Thanks for this info!

Christian: Check you PMs here. I have a spare NAPA Balkamp 6601000 seal (and a new Volvo heater valve so I won't need the seal)

I tried purchasing the Volvo Model 122 valve and instantly noticed that it would not work without modifying my car, the valve or both.

While cruising articles submitted by members here in the forums, I came across the name of Jospeh Hudacek, as someoene had posted an old business card of his from 2013. I thought a phone call wouldn't hurt and intended on just leaving the gentleman a message this past Sunday. Within five minutes, Mr Hudacek called me back to discuss my valve. we shared a great conversation about the valves and cars in general - a very nice man, indeed. Monday, the valve was packed and mailed to superior, WI for a rebuild. It arrived on Thursday, was rebuilt and I received an email stating that it would be going out in the morning's post. I hadn't even paid for the services, yet, when I received his email.

I notified Mr Hudacek and asked how he wanted to be paid for his services. His reply made me feel great about the old care hobby once again - "I put an invoice in the box" was his response. Not wanting him to wait on his money, I immediately sent a check to him.

In thew article, the member mentioned that, in 2013, he paid $85 to have his valve rebuilt and mailed back to him. My cost? Mr Hudacek is still charging only $85, eight years later. I don't don't anything or any service that hasn't gone up in the last eight years or anyone who sends an invoice for payment.

If you have a valve that needs repair, please consider calling Mr Hudacek at 715-392-6169. He's one of the last of a quickly disappearing breed of vendors.

Todd: Too bad about the Volvo valve. It worked fine for me (56 Dodge).

I'm glad that you found an alternative (Joseph Hudacek).

Thanks a million for the reply.

Its just one of those old car situations we all deal with and spend a bit on that doesn't work.

If anyone needs that specific valve, I paid $114, plus $6 for shipping and will sell it for $100 and ship it at my cost.

UPDATE: I received my valve back fro Mr Hudacek and it looks brand new. The plan is to reinstall it this weekend and get the hoses back on. The great service I received is still amazing and a flashback to when people actually cared about their customers.
