Looking at a car with no drivetrain that was allegedly an original D-500. Is there anything on the P/T plate that would confirm it to be a true D-500?
I've been trying to figure that out for 2 years and have failed so far.
Part of the problem is the earliest 56 D500s were the full monty with the engine, the heavy duty suspension and the 12" x 2.5" Chrysler brakes likely only in a 2 dr Coronet or 2 dr Custom Royal Lancer. By around March 1956, they made the engine available in any of the bodies with and without the brake package. My own May 1956 Custom Royal D500 is a sedan with the engine and brakes but without the heavy duty suspension. With the engine gone, the only "tells" might be the holes in the hood and trunk for the "500" Crossed Flags badges.
