I'm sure this is going to be an epic stupid question, but how are the knobs on the different controls removed. for instance, the headlight switch. The manual skips this rather important piece of information and I don't want to break it.
Please help.

There really arn't any stupid questions - just stupid answers
You need to feel up under the dash board on the body of the light switch. There's a small knob that you need to press in and then pull out the knob and stem as a unit.

Here's a Picture, mind that the wire colors are for Chrysler. You'll see the knob and spring in the center......

Wow !! I never would have thought of that. That's pretty slick. I assume then when re-attaching the knob and stem the button needs to be pushed down again ?
Thanks so much for the valuable info.

Yes, Always smoother to press the button while pushing back the stem/knob

How is the switch itself held in place under the dash ? This all started while trying to diagnose no parking lights problem. I wanted to take the switch out to clean the rust and corrosion.

Usually, you have to turn the bezel in the front to unscrew the switch from the dash.
