I'm planning a transmission swap and am hoping somebody here has a '57-'58 V-8 3-speed standard transmission out of the car that they can take some measurements from. I am in need of the following dimensions:

1) Dimension from the front of the case to the tip of the input shaft.

2) Diameter of the front bearing retainer where it enters the bellhousing

3) Length of the front bearing retainer from the front of the case.

4) Diameter of the front bearing retainer where the throw out bearing rides.

What swap are you planning? Sounds like you are thinking of adapting the original bell housing.

Yes, I want to swap in a later A-230. I'd like to get an idea of what's gonna be involved without having to pull the existing trans. I'm hoping the A230 input shaft is longer so I can make a simple plate adapter between the trans and the bellhousing.
