Does anyone know what type and size/length of screw holds the pinchweld on? Are they machine or sheetmetal screws? There was a tiny piece of one on my car and it looked like it was a sheetmetal screw but I don't know if that was original.

I have a set and can see they are not tapped. There are two small holes on the car so I'm thinking it takes a short sheetmetal screw on top and a longer one on the bottom.

Don't want to mess them up with the wrong screws.... these were hard to find.

The parts catalog calls the pinchweld pieces Quarter Panel Extensions part # 1756 518 for the right and 1756 519 for the left. The screw is shown as part # 165 061 but I can't find a reference on sizing....will keep looking.

Doug: I more or less agree with your PNs (see below), except the left is 1756 519.

I am guessing that 165 061 will be an oval head self tapping, as listed in the Geno and Auveco catalogs:

Geno: pgs 2 and 3: http://www.geno-inc.org/en/cat19.pdf

Auveco: pg. 2: http://www.auveco.com/OnlineCatalog/v2016/index.html#?page=2

Until somebody provides a better answer, you're going to have to gently experiment on No. 6, 8 or 10, etc. and length. Sorry.

Some info from the parts catalog:

1. Diagram showing the equivalent 56 Chrysler trim piece (I couldn't find a 57 Desoto diagram that specifically showed that trim)
2. The Part Number (PN) listings (to confirm your PN listing)

Thanks. You're parts catalog picture is way better than mine since I didn't scan it.....for now I've got a #8 have inch screw. There is no way to get to the top one. There is a square access hole in the bumper but no access from the backside (where have I heard that before?)

Glad that helped. Would a bent/offset screwdriver work (see below)?:

As a matter of interest (or not), I didn't scan anything. I used that Mopar 55-58 parts catalogue pdf that I always mention and recommend. If you click on the page image it turns blue. Then you right click and it asks "Copy Image?". I click on that box and then paste the image into Irfan view (freeware) and then I trim it and resize it. (1024 x 768 or 768 x 1024 to come in under the 250 kB photo limit). Then I save it and upload it to my post with "Attach a file after posting" ticked off. Works well. Not perfect but good enough.

Tried those and they are too long. I may have another shorter version that will work.

Got the pinchweld pieces installed. Still need to install one screw but they are in place and solid. Used #8 screws 1/2" long. Was ok on driver side but a nightmare on the passenger side. Will have to get the other screw in when the bumper comes off for plating.

Another view of a 57 Desoto pinch weld trim (and screws) (seem very open to access?)
