I'm just finishing up the restoration on my 1956 dodge regent; as most of you know this was a Canadian model, "plodge".
Anyway, I have been looking at pictures of unrestored and restored Regents on the internet to answer detail questions here and there and have noticed that about half of the Regents I see have on the front of the hook below the hood ornament and below the rear deck emblem the golden "V" emblem.
On the other half of the cars (and mine) the "V" emblem is missing.
Can anyone explain when the "V" emblem was used and not used on these cars? I'm confused.

I can't be sure in your case, but these cars (Plymouths and Dodges) often had special "V" emblems if they were V8 powered rather than the standard straight six.

I am still a Noob here but having owned a 55 Regent (1967-72) and had an Uncle with a 55 Mayfair V8, the "V" = V8 engine. No V = flat head six.
The grill badges both for the sixes and V8s are unique to the 55 Dodges. Likewise the 56 Dodge grill badges are 56 only. And the 56 "V" is separate from the grill badge (as opposed the 55s where it was part of the grill badge).
