Location: Grass Valley,CA. | My recently purchased 56 New Yorker with the 354 Hemi had a stuck open thermostat and the engine never seemed to warm up over 140 degrees. I installed a new 180 degree one and, at least according to the dash gauge ,barely reaches the low end of the normal temp operating range. Anyone here have a spec on the one I should use for this engine ? 180?...190?
Thanks in advance.

I would see what temp it's running at fully warmed up by using one of those laser point temperature gizmos pointed at the thermostat housing.
You could also put a thermometer in the radiator.

Location: Grass Valley,CA. | I'll do that now that the new 180 stat is installed. With the old one my infrared thermometer read 140 at the housing. |

Location: Hayward, Calif | Put the thermometer in the rad with the cap off and see what the temp is really doing. Chances are the sender or the gauge is losing calibration. Also check it at rpm's above idle. Jerry |
