I've come across a 1956 Dodge 2dr sedan that was purchased in 1999 at the Silver car auctions in Reno. Owner has left this realm and the history was lost. There is however an old photo copy of a title with Lee Petty's name on it. Trying to find some additional information. I've been able to find the listing but there are no pictures and no details.

I just saw the 56 Coronet 2dr D500 once owned by Don Petty (Lee's nephew and FL member) on the AllCollectorCars website last week. The one I saw lives in Oregon. Not sure if it is the one you are looking for.

That's the car Dave and that's the first time that I've heard that it was Don and not Lee that owned it. You say that he is here on the FL site? How would I go about finding him?
I've already spoken to the caretaker of the collection about the car but there's no back story. All she knew was that her grand father bought it at auction in 1999. Car hasn't been started or driven in a decade. Still waiting for some more details before I drive down to inspect it in person.

Don is here as the "wildone770".
He replied to my WTB Brake drum post with his phone number. His aol email address in his profile doesn't get used. He has another one on gmail that he uses.

It should be noted that this is a standard transmission car. You can barely see the chrome knob on the end of the black three-on-the-tree shift lever but more importantly, there is no automatic pushbutton bezel on the left side of the dash:
