I always thought backing plates were painted black. The fronts on my 58 Belvedere convertible are an orange/red. At first i thought they had been repainted at some point but when I took everything apart I found the orange paint was completely applied, even under the spindle flange. When I scrape it the orange is on top of black paint. Any idea if this is original and correct?
