Location: Hayward, Calif | Hey guys, I didn't feel like waiting several months for that push button conversion kit so I made my own. I'l have to say it did turn out to be a Royal PITA. The cable wasn't long enough, so I made up some linkage. That wasn't so bad, but had to take the pan off and remove the valve body. I had a 904 laying around so took it apart 1st to see what I was getting into. The detent ball went flying off somewhere, never did find it. I did retrieve the spring. Now that I know what to look for so I moved on to the 727. I finally found a soft coil spring at a hardware store. I had to shorten it up a bit and after taking that valve body down 4 times I finally got it working. Taking it down wasn't so bad but putting it back up got real challenging as had to get 3 different pieces to line up all at the same time. Besides doing all this on a creeper. The push buttons push a little hard so think I will do it 1 more time and shorten that detent spring a tad more. Jerry

These things aren't rocket science, just some amount of leg work.
As for the detent spring, I would look into using a softer spring, like from a ballpoint pen (or 2) perhaps.

Got a close-up pic of the trans shift lever or a center-to-center hole dimension? |

Location: Hayward, Calif | I used the shift lever off the 904 because it could be drilled. The 727 lever was to hard to drill. I used a 1 1/8 center to center on this lever and 1 1/4 center to center on the fulcrum lever. I used the existing mounting holes on the trans as it was easier to work with than trying to fabricate some sort of a mounting bracket. I got the ball sockets at a hardware store. Had to pay attention to the ball sockets so the travel stayed within their working angle or they would bind up at the end of the lever travel. I still have to modify the TV kick down lever to clear that ball socket on the shift lever. That shift lever has a flat side in the mounting hole so it can only be installed one way which leads to interference issues. Patience and observation seem to be the key words here. Maybe someone can come with something even better than this. That 65 T/F spring sounds good. I'l have to see if I can find one. Jerry |

Location: Hayward, Calif | Hey Guys, Thanks for all the cool comments ! The push buttons still push a bit hard, I finally isolated that resistance to that short link to the shift lever. Haven't quite figured out how to relieve it yet. Had to put those bends in it to clear the cooling tube. I had the wife pushing the buttons for me while I watched and measured its operation. After a couple minuets of this she thought I was jerking her around. I had to convince her this was important, " Just keep pushing those buttons " Jerry |

| I like that you made it work. With some of the cars out there that need a resto job the engine and trans have been pulled and no where to be found. Finding the correct trans and all parts seems to be more on the difficult and pricey side of things.
Is going this route the next best option if stock parts are drying up? I think muscle car era parts will be around for some years to come |

Location: WHEELING,WV.>>>HOME OF WWVA | how about gettin rid the arm on the lever thats causing the problem and weld another arm @ 12:00 or so that will still give you the detent ratio ----------------------------------------------later |
