And, its wheels are too large, for the car's dimensions.
But, it's a Helluva CLOWN car.

"Good taste is never extreme" (unless you love 1959 Sport Furys).....

Jim, those wheel were only put on it in modern times, not 50 years ago.
It's sort of an exercise in group masturbation.... if you read an article on the car a lot of very talented 'friends' got together and made it happen. In other words, throw gobs of money at something so you can sit around later and brag about how you and your buddies did it. |

Personally, I it's fantastic! The craftsmanship and creativity are amazing.
My favorite details about this customization is that it also fixes some of the things that always bothered me about '59s such as the goofy stock headlamp location, and boring stock instrument panel. |

LOVE its appearance. and I'm not saying that, merely to fan any flame(rs)....out there.
The 59 IMP dashboard has a great appearance and presence.

Location: Kansas City, KS | Neil, I can understand why you like the stock 1959 instrument panel. It always reminded me of a Dodge or DeSoto with that horizontal speedometer.
I think there's a reason why it was only used for one year and then in 1960 they reverted to a style similar to 1957/1958

Location: bishop, ca | Yeah, but....the 59 IMP speedo housing reminds me of Robbie the Robot, or a jukebox...gotta admit that the
1957-type twin dashboard nacelles look too grossly common, and un-refined; big, for the sake of big-ness, in an Imperial...but, the IMP's dashboard designer(s) apparently thought differently, and over the course of relatively many years.
The appearance and operation of the 59 IMP dash appears to be more refined, and classy, than the other FWDLK dashes.

Location: Layton, Utah | I think the craftsmanship is amazing ! Never liked the 59 instrument cluster. The only things wrong about it to me, 1- The quarter panels need to be 8-12 inches longer to match the front fenders. 2- It would look better with chrome wire wheels. 3- The windshield needs to be a few inches taller and the chrome upper windshield support need to be there. Other than that it's bitchin. But who am I to complain, I could probably never do one like this this nice. DeSoto lives !!! |

| they chopped up a 4 door. I think it is off a bit.. I would think you would want it balanced perfectly with putting that much money in it. Its close but from the pics it looks off.

this guy/"designer" is also the guy behind the '71 'Cuda used in the "Fast & Furious" movies that recently sold for over $300k...
not sure if that is a "record" for 'Cuda's, but i suspect it probably is...
yeah, to ME anyway, this "designer" is *ALL* about the MONEY...

Location: The Bat Cave, Fairborn, OH | This is what it looked like at the Good Guys Hot Rod Show in Columbus, OH in 2011. Amazing body work and attention to detail. I don't care much for the wheels - they look too much like J.C. Whitney wire rim wheel covers (which were a popular customizing touch on 1970s GM barges) but the overall effect is not bad. That front end is dripping in chrome and seems a tad garish, but that was what the 50s were all about I guess.

Location: Arizona | I'd prefer it with chrome wheels, the orange just seems out of place. That said, I'd be reluctant to criticize it much given it's a one-off. At some point the designer has to "do the metal" and he too may have looked at the final product and said "Gee, perhaps another two inches here or there would have made it better" but what's done is done. I will appreciate it for what it is, which is a very unique creation that blends FL with Pony Car and IMHO does it pretty darn well. |

sorry I have to whole heartedly agree... I mean admire the craftsmanship and effort all you want... in the end its a clown car. A really really well done clown car, but they turned an imperial into a clown car...
I kind of know, I kind of build customs
I wouldn't custom a car that should be restored(due to condition) or that are rare and I certainly would do the job right, not half ass it.
But I understand why it turned out like that.. and its due to laziness... yes that's right I said laziness.
basically this is how it went down...
"hey guys whats a cool project for sema?(insert show here) people are sick of Caddies chopped and customized... Lincoln? nah.. yeah lets do an imperial! it will be cool and rare! and well win awards and stuff!.. yeah but which one? Well lets go 58, its great looking and popular, okay lets go get one! " now they could gotten a coupe and chopped it up slightly but they didn't...
But they got a 4 door... and then what did they do? Stupidly they cut the front doors off and kept the back of the car and the back doors because they had that hump... then they even more lazily cut the roof off. Slapped some orange rims on and meh.... a clown car...
and here you have my lazy mans clown car imperial custom! that poor imperial...

Location: Houston | Fair enough, but the guys who did this car had plenty of resources on hand to CAD it up before they cut any metal.
I'd be curious, more than anything, as to how the car actually drives. I've never cared one bit about how a car looks - especially a modded car - if it doesn't drive well. Is it quiet where it's supposed to be quiet? Does it take corners well? Is it jittery on the highway? Stuff like that is usually what gets overlooked, yet it's a very important aspect of ANY car.
It'd be like parading around your knockout girlfriend and hoping nobody finds out behind closed doors she turns into Rosie O'Donnel.

To me, the imperial needed to be made skinnier as well, looking from the top, down, it looks too square
Brilliant work though, but not a fan
The roof on that 57 chev looks like the terrible roof profiles you see on cars they try to turn into utes, just terrible

Location: bishop, ca | I've seen MUCH more-poorly executed roof-and-body designs and construction, on these truncated (pun intended) cars, than is presented
on this particular 1957 Chubbie, above.
Looking critically at it, the door-and-roof lines could be a little bit longer, for visual balance, but, overall, the car's profile is not ungainly or
particularly clown-car looking.
My compliments to its creator, for having made something, out of nothing....
