| I'm trying to source some original carpet (with the gold lurex thread) but have concluded there is none available anywhere. I am now working on having some remade and either here in the UK where I live, or in the US. I have some leads on places which will do a color match and will be trying to hand weave in the gold thread. I have been lent an original sample taken from under the seats where it should not have faded or been damaged. The color is a very unusual one which is going to be difficult to match, to my eyes is it s "grey/brown" which might be why it was originally called "charcoal according to Wayne Graefen's book on this model.
Picture attached (original sample on the right - sample of ACC Trinadad Black with silver lurex is on the right) I don't think the Trinadad is anywhere near close enough to use. does anyone have any other pictures of original carpet for us to look at and compare?
Many thanks

Location: Hay Lakes, Alberta, Canada | What is the "Lurex" made of today? Is it possible to "fade" the black carpet somehow, without harming the colour of the gold? If so, you'd have a closer match... |

the sample you have looks to be pretty close to the right color, my sample is more faded than that, but going by the original color of dash pad it looks similar to the Brown charcoal color,
Paul.

Brad the lurex is still available to buy, its like a synthetic material, similar to mylar so i don`t think it would dye or fade

| Hi Brad, the problem with the black "Trinadad" carpet is not just the color. The pile is not right, and the lurex is much too wide, more like a band of metal, also there's quite a bit too much of the metal in it, so even if we could fade it, assuming it faded to brown rather than grey, I think it would still look wrong.
Cheers

| Hi big chrysler
Looking back at your post in June, I did try to reply with my address and some other thoughts but maybe you didn't get it? Here is my message again in case I messed up! I would really appreciate an original sample of the carpet if you have some and any ideas where you got your carpet from? Also I'm thinking of coming to Sweden with the car next year if its re-commissioning goes well. What time of year would you recommend and what shows/meets are there? Best wishes Mark

| Hi Paul
I think you're right, that is about the closest match I've seen. It was definitely called "Charcoal" and Wayne's book on the Adventurer confirms this and suggests it was charcoal fading to very dark brown (like Hershy's Dark he once told me).
I think this will come down to two options:
1. Have some hand made as (hopefully) an exact to Ed Petrus' original sample from under the seats (should not have faded), complete with factory woven lurex thread = expensive
2. Get some off the shelf Charcoal and some lurex and needle and spend a few weeks weaving it in - time consuming but much less expensive!
Where did you get that sample from please?
Best wishes
