Location: Omaha, NE | After studying a Chilton's repair manual and experimenting with a distributor, I think I have the intermediate gear timed correctly. The engine is set to fire on number 1 (TDC), the distributor vacuum advance is pointing to the passenger side, and the distributor rotor is pointing to number 1 as shown on the attached Chilton's image. The slot in the intermediate gear is at 11:00/5:00 looking down and rearward. Can someone verify that I am correct?
Also, does anyone have experience with the replacement intermediate gear and shaft from HotHeads Research? I bought a set, and it comes with a roll pin that appears to be much less robust than the original. I have an original that is in good shape. Should I use it instead?
Thanks!

Location: N.W. Fla. | As long as the rotor points @ #1 when the engine is on #1 on the firing cycle, & the dizzy has room to be adjusted, all is good! |

Location: Omaha, NE | A couple of people I talked to said they don't worry about timing the intermediate gear, but it determines the location of the rotor. I guess they just move the plug wires around on the cap to make things work. I wanted it to be right by the repair manual. Thanks for your comments. |

That's true, but, If there's a chance someone else might have to work on the engine, or if #1 is marked on the cap, then using that as #1 is best. |
