| Hi guy new to the site need help identifying a 392 hemi I have block suffix NE57, which depending on the site you read says 325 or375 hp. The motor was complete with a factory dual quad setup that looks to never be touched. I am trying to figure out what I have here, and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Location: Chestertown, NY ( near Lake George) | Obviously it's a 57 Hemi built in Detroit, bore and stroke will tell which one regarding displacement, most likely 392. hp figures vary based on whether it was a 300 or std. engine, not denoted on the block number. |

Location: Under the X in Texas | If it were originally a 300C engine that number would start "3NE57...." This is a "57 New Yorker block. Somewhere in the ensuing fifty seven years someone has set aside the original single quad intake assembly and added a '57 or '58 dual quad from a 300. Manifold casting date and carburetor tag dates (if present) might tell you which it is.
Just for history sake, I'll note that the New Yorker COULD be ordered with the dual quads from the factory when new in '57. I've never heard of one documented to have been ordered but it was in the books.
The New Yorker (and Imperial) 392s are 325 HP in '57
A NYer ordered with the dual quads would have been 350 HP due to cam grind.
The 300C with standard dual quads and without the 399 race engine code would be 375 HP.
A 300C with dual quads, 399 order code, special spec cam and 2.5" exhaust full length was rated 390 HP. |

Location: bishop, ca | S.O.T., could a 57-58 NY'er have been special ordered with BOTH the dual carbs and the 300 camshaft?
A wealthy guy (like Kiekaefer) wants a NY'er, but built with a '300' engine?
K. got Dodge to build at least one hardtop, and one sedan, onto convertible frames.

Location: N.W. Fla. | My ref says 57-8 300 & "Power Package". Don't know what P.P. is. The 300 engines had solid lifter cam/lifters and Adj rockers & dimpled valve covers to clear the rockers. |

Location: Peoples Republic of Oregon | ...can't quite read the first part of the date code but it does say '57. Generally, model year cut-off will be 7-1 but as far as I know all 2x4 manifolds have the same casting number. Someone will correct me if there is a manifold with a 18xxxxx casting number.
The 2x4 is a good looking set-up, especially with the correct air cleaners. Power wise, a modified 1x4 with a 3310 Holley will run circles around the stock 2x4. |

. All 57-8s do. 55-6 have 1637625 or 1731686 |

Location: Under the X in Texas | Yes, one could order a "power pak" '57 New Yorker 392 Hemi with dual quads. It would still be short of 300C horsepower as it would still have the lower horsepower camshaft, but would have the dual quad intake. I understand there were some police cars ordered like this but have never seen a privately owned NYer with power pak. |

...note to self...use more words....
Yes 57-58. The earlier manifolds are also of a different design. |

Location: Peoples Republic of Oregon | Are you building a solid-lifter engine? If not, then there are plenty of hydraulic profiles that will do as good a job or even better than the 'old' mechanical profile. New cores are available sporadically but it seems that when available they get cut to one of the 'one-size-fits-all' profiles. If you have a good core we can regrind something to your needs. And, if you are wanting a mechanical lifter cam we can cut those also.
Do you have mechanical/adjustable rocker arms?
