Location: McComb, Mississippi | Rebuilt torqueflite will not kickdown from 3rd to 1st when the gas pedal is pressed to the floor. The linkage has been properly adjusted and rechecked. The fluid is at the proper level and I can manually downshift the transmission using the buttons. Does anyone have any ideas on what is causing this? Is it an easy fix? Thanks

The linkage has been properly adjusted and rechecked.
With that out of the way you best contact your rebuilder and ask what he could have fubarred in the process.
Or is it?
Did you tighten up the adjustment to see if this changes anything? |

Location: Chestertown, NY ( near Lake George) | Normal 3-1 kickdown only occurs between 25-32 mph, assuming all conditions allow this, linkage adjustment most critical. |

Location: McComb, Mississippi | The Trans was rebuilt many years ago and barely used. I've played with the adjustment of the linkage with no success. Here's the problem. When I put the pedal to the floor for passing gear, it doesn't drop down to first, but I can manually drop it down by hitting the first button. |

Location: Southern Sweden - Sturkö island | Christian, don't fiddle with the adjustment; go by the book and use the adjustment method described there. Make sure that the pedal has the proper angle and that there are no obstacles such as old carped, stones and or sand in the way. |

Location: Chestertown, NY ( near Lake George) | Again at what speed?, normal down shift is 3-2 at speed under about 60 depending on rear gearing, very rarely would you get a 3-1 down shift, based on governor speed you can manually downshift at any speed. |

Location: Chestertown, NY ( near Lake George) | Ok that eliminates a 3-1 downshift, way too fast, depending on rear gear ratio a 3-2 change should occur at 51-64 mph, if again the linkage is correct. Can we assume this is a V8? |

As stated, it won't downshift to 1st at that speed but should downshift to 2nd....try again at 40 mph.
If it still won't kickdown it's likely the linkage adjustment even though you think it's properly adjusted. Remove the linkage rod from the transmission lever, then have somebody sit in the car and mat the accelerator pedal and see if the transmission lever will move rearward farther than the linkage would have pushed it. |

Location: McComb, Mississippi | Okay, sorry to sound like a moron , but I finally got it to work. I just had to push past the resistance on the gas pedal. I learn something everyday. everything seems to be working fine. |
