We might assume they were typically owned by guys hauling light, but bulky loads, but still
wanted a regular car, as opposed to a truck or sedan delivery ?
Felix Fixxit, the local carpenter/handyman needs to move the occassional armload of 2x4's
to fix Mrs. Walker's fence ? Or Bob the Plumber needs to get his pipe and fittings across town
to the job ? But both still have to take the Mrs. to church on Sunday and she has no interest
riding to church in a 3/4 ton work truck !

Location: Parts Unknown | These never sold in large numbers. I always thought of them as little more than a "compromise"
car ... a commercial sedan delivery with the civility of windows for personal use or more of a
"normal" appearance.
Back then people were vastly more practical, and single-car families/homes were not un-typical.
If the "home" could only afford a single car and the bread-earner needed a practical hauler, but
wanted it scaled back to a more "normal" appearance for other life needs/ interests, the windowed
version of a sedan delivery might be just the ticket.
Obviously, few had that need, or they would have sold more of them. But they did fill a niche while
that niche existed. Anymore, we usually have multiple cars for different applications. We ain't in
Kansas anymore there, Toto !

It looks like the military green is showing through the red. My green wagon was that same olive drab originally.
Does yours have a middle (back) seat? Mine came with only a front seat, the workings for the back seat are present, just no
cushions. I was told that mine was one of 13 the USAF ordered with only a front seat. Surely yours isn't one from that order?

I had been thinking that green would be a cool color for my '59 two door wagon, which was originally a black police vehicle.
I won't be touching it until after retirement (if I live that long), but that '61 is awesome. People forget how popular Seafoam, Mint, etc. green was between 1955-'61. Not just Mopar, but GM and Ford, too. AMC seemed to push brighter colors for some reason and I cannot recall too many green Ramblers from that era, though a neighbor had a two tone green '59 or '60 wagon.

| Yes it was originally olive drab green and was ordered new for the military. It still has the tag on the firewall. It only had the front seat and had the alum \6 with a three speed on the tree. It is very rust free. The carpet was pulled years ago, so the floor pans are rock solid. It has a poor accident repair to one quarter and a little rust in one front fender. Can't wait to get it on the road in his memory. |

as a well tweaked, streetable build, how does a 225 perform ? We know they kick a Valiant down
the road real well, but how about in a 60 Dart or 61 Plymouth ?

to know what motor it had , we wouldn't tell em . so one of the car co-owners told em to jump in we'd take em for a ride out the lane out on the hard road a bit and back . we all jumped in , out the lane we
went flyin , dust everywhere , hit the hard road . went up to the wide intersection and spun around back the other way without stoppin . that was a real treat in itself with a locked rear end . so back down the
road we went , back up the lane and parked . the first thing they said was you gotta tell us what motor you got , lets see . earlier we hinted it might be a 318 and kept up the farce , throwin in it was a slant 6 about
every other sentence . they weren't believin it was a 6 and wantin to know the real size of the motor , it can't be a slant six but it was . they left never knowing what size it was but for sure they wouldn't

| The wagon is running and driving now. Now to start on the body work and get it painted. Here are some updated pictures. I went with a 318 Magnum because I can get parts anywhere and I had it laying around.

| I'm going Hot Rod black on the bottom and a silver with lots of metal flake on the top. I want an old school hot rod look. I changed out the steering column to an automatic column and I put in a cheap floor shifter for now. May do push buttons later on. I need to get a speedo cable. Does Imperial make one that would fit a later 727. It is out of a 73 Cuda. I also need to find a tail light pod for a wagon. I have several car ones that are chrome. One of mine the mice built a nest in it and it is rusted pretty bad. Its funny that most people think the car ones are the same until you show them. |

would restore one of these rides to their OEM appearance.
There is a huge X-military vehicle hobby, out there, and this car would be very popular with them that do collect these vehicles.
The "For Official Use Only" or the "Air Force" stencil(s) on the doors would look Kool.
Being strippers, these (13??) cars would certainly be easy restorations.
I wonder if one of them could be set up as being for Military Police usage?

| SavoyPlaza, I pulled my plate off the wagon so I could clean it. I will post it asap. Mine is a little different. It does not have the FSN #, but in the big box it has 108217. In the contract # it has: DA-20-113-ORD26560 Mine has some over spray on it so I am going to clean it gently so I can get a better picture. |

| My wagon is finally home from the paint shop. Now the reassembly begins. Hunting down the fasteners and clips has been a major pain over the last two days. I will post more when I get the bumpers hung and a few more pieces mounted.

| A few more from this afternoon. Next up will be getting the driver's side trim repaired and weather stripping. Still need some clips for the long quarter mouldings and can't find the weird screws for the front park lenses, I have one. Need to get the rubber bumpers for the hood also.
