| Some of you may recall I bought this car in 2010, and she was a basketcase as you can see in the pics...well, I've been working at it every winter and now finally, she's ready for primer!
Running a '59 Custom Royal 361/TF, updated rear end, Disc brakes, oh and I made a small...styling change...muahahaha!!

That is too funny...would you believe I seriously considered a '60-62 Chrysler dash?!? I have one, but decided to not go overboard there, and I really like the Plymouth dash, with it's space age styling. |

Thanks Jeff, yes it will be interesting to see if non-Forward Look people pick up on it.
It ended up being lots of work modifying that front to accept the '60 body, neither of the door/fender,
hood/cowl gaps were right, had to redo all them. Purely fluke though, the '58 bumper bolted right on in perfect alignment.
Tomorrow is the BIG DAY, I finally paint!

| Thanks Brian, it's going to be a fun car. I decided to go with the 58 front, was a tough decision but prefer it a little bit. Course that meant I had to build the center lower valence almost from scratch, make a 58 grille out of two 57's, and made headlight mounts, using 59 Dodge headlight rings. Guess I'm a glutton for punishment! |

Was it the front fenders? Hard to tell because you don't have a front view 'before' picture posted.
Just curious as you've done a nice job with that body work and those of us ignorant of the subtlies of these years may never notice them.

The subtle styling change is a complete front clip swap from a 60 plymouth to a 57 plymouth

| Hehe, Thanks Mick for filling Beltran in. It must not look too disjointed if it isn't obvious! Thanks for the compliment on my bodywork, it's not an easy car to do bodywork on, let alone to spray...especially the inside of those gargantuan fins, it's impossible to get your spray gun correctly in alignment to that area, just have to kind of shoot it in from a distance! |

Well now it makes sense heh. Was it just that easy? Did the front clip just bolt on?
Haha, I wish! No, the door to fender gaps were different curvature, as was hood to cowl, the hood hinges didn't line up, the rad support
needed new mounts (57 was a single mount in middle, '60 -up was above frame rails). I ended up using the '60 fenderwells, they only
needed slight modification. The front bumper bolted right on, which is bizarre since I went from a framed 57 to a unibody 60!!
It was all worth it, I never would have been happy with that '60 front end (no offense, '60 owners!), and those parts would've needed a
lot of work anyway. These '57 fenders were junk though, I rebuilt the entire front of them, eyebrows to bumper, inside and out. The
lower part that meets the rocker had to be reformed (it was rotted out anyway) to mate up with the rocker, I think it turned out good.

Yes it really does give new life to a project. I did get my body work completed on the main shell and got it into epoxy primer. Then I did my front femders and now the doors are at the body shop. In between all that I got the engine and driveline all done. .........................MO |

| Yes, been woking on getting side glass in, I adapted power door lock solonoids from an '85 Chrysler 5th avenue. Super easy to install, at least on '60 up cars. Fixed the broken power window regulators as well. Also been getting new side glass put into channels, and now into the doors and quarters. The new top and cylinders are on their way, new windshield is coming mid-may!

|
| Thanks Steve! Well NorthernFins found this car for me, it was a pretty good price and jumped on it without really thinking (we've all been there). But, looking at it afterwards, I just could not bring myself to like that '60 front, though I felt the rest of the '60 is divine. But have loved the '57-8 front since I first saw Christine as a kid, and had a couple '57's laying around. So started to wonder, what if?? I kind of enjoy that sort of work, modifying, adapting. Will get more pics up soon! |

Location: Parts Unknown | As "what if ?" cars go, this one really looks great. I have been torn for years about mixing 57
sidetrim and parking lights onto my 58. I think it would be the final word in "perfect design".
I too, find the 58 Plymouth nose to be a flawless design, where I find the 60 a little too blunt
for the overall slipperiness of the rest of the car. I know "change" was the name of the game
then, but I think ol' Ex could have dialed that nose in a little tighter. Nice work.
Love the dark top !

I do miss a bench at times for just that reason. That's exactly the look I was going for and where I got the idea, from the 1960 300's. But those bucket seats are awesome, on a long drive they are SO comfortable. |
