Didn't notice it before-- since the car doesn't have a remote mirror I guess the factory installed the hood release in that spot. I wonder if all the ones without a remote mirror were done like that? |

Some observations. My first 60 Windsor was my great grandmas bought new here in Cincinnati, an A/C car, with auto pilot, remote mirror, swivel seats, some pretty good options for a Windsor. Anyway, mine had a panel for a clock option, but no clock. My current Windsor has a solid panel with no cutout for a clock. Has anyone seen this before? Also, I think that the spare in the rear might be original...the only marking on it is 8.50 x 14. Any thoughts?

Location: Victoria, BC, on Vancouver Island, Canada | Chris, your spare tire should have a date stamp on it somewhere, part of the casting in the rubber. You can still buy those 850 x 14 bias through various tire suppliers. Looking again at your hood release handle it actually appears to be in the correct spot, as opposed to Sven and my own earlier observation. Here's a pic of where mine is. Strange thing about the clock cover on yours. What is the build date on your car? Maybe an early production? My own car was built Nov 1959 and has several anomalies compared to later builds. Your car looks outstanding. Has the engine compartment been detailed? Most of them even low mileage after 50 years don't look this good.

Location: Netherlands | Very nice car you got there Chris! Congrats on getting it, you must be chuffed to bits!
If you want a nice correct running and lighting '60 clock for your car send me a PM...
Ian, the clock delete plates on the '61's are not really removable, it's the same 1 piece plate as shown in those '60 pics.
The chrome clock bezel is part of the chrome trim in '61 and the clocks are mounted without the bezel as opposed to the '60's that have the bezel attached to the clock housing.
To mount the clock in a '61 the whole plate must be removed and cut in half underneath the bezel to make space for the clock.
The left over clock delete piece can be used to make a '61 clock face plate if the clock available happens to be a '60 or '62... |

So I guess it's indeed original that way and there appear to be 2 versions in '60. Interesting...
One for cars that might possibly get a clock at some point and one for cars that never will...

You're right, I can sort of make out a vertical line on the first picture where it looks like the face plate is split, but the 2nd one definitely is one solid piece of aluminum. The 1960 "one piece" version of the face plate certainly looks much tidier than the 1961 version with a chrome division, which makes it look obvious that something is missing. Location: Netherlands | Indeed the one piece version is the tidiest by far, the missing clock was an immediate eyesore for me when I got our car.
Thought at the time that it would be an easy addition, how wrong I was...In fact the "simple" clock install led to a total dash restoration.
Glad it did though, I learned a hell of a lot...
The 300 club info does not mention this interesting 2 piece clock delete plate either...
