Nice light up ignition switch. I didn't know that was an option.
Standard on Fury/Belvedere, optional on Savoy/Plaza, or not offered at all on S/P?
|
|

Location: Parts Unknown | As cleared up by a recent thread, the Fury was the same as Plaza in all respects. I expect
the keen historian making that claim would suggest they all got light-up ignition switches too ?
Let's keep our facts straight, OK !

Let's see some more, people! Does a DeSoto glow green too? Does that translucent speedo in a '61 Dodge light up? Whose "panelescent" setup still works? |

Does that translucent speedo in a '61 Dodge light up?
My parents owned a '61 Dart Seneca, and the speedometer in that car lit up green at night.

Greg, they actually switched position between clock and ash tray from 55 to 56, I've checked the owners manual to verify it's the correct positon.
In my view when driving the ash tray is hidden by the steering wheel and I've a good view of the clock.
My clock isn't working, it stopped at quarter to 6 when James Dean was killed in the accident in 1955. |

My 1960 Fury's dash. Looks like some kind of evil robot! Some of the green lenses have fallen off which is why some of the lights are not green...and the seal around some of the pushbuttons is gone..which allows the light to seep through.

you can, simply, custom cut-out a piece of felt, so that the felt closes-tightly around the buttons, but does not affect
their movement.

Do you have a problem with LED lights directing the light only forward (depending on how the bulb is mounted in the dash. How many LED/s per bulb did you use? Did you replace with white LED lights or did you use the color of your dash (I.E. green)? |

| I always get a warm safe feeling whenever I see the glow of the dash from one of these old cars.
I flash back to the days being a kid sitting on the edge of the back seat resting my chin on the back of the front seat looking down the road as we traveled to great grandma's or on vacation.
We always left on a Friday night after Grandpa got home from work. He loved to travel at night when the traffic was almost nonexistent.

Last winter I changed all dash lightbulbs (2w) and thought that this wold be nice bu I was very dissapointed, I had very "weak" light so now I wonder how strong bulbs can I use. Is it okay to use 4w or do the going to ruin and melt "

I think Neil did a thread on this a year or so ago
To make it brighter without the melt, you might have to repaint the inside of your gauges or at least clean in there

That will "work" the rheostat hard and possibly burn it out. |

I am restoring mine and as I have never seen it lights on I have few questions:
1) What color the lighting should be? White, green?
2) Are the letters in speedo and other gauges just white or do they have fluorescent/phosphorous effet on them, I mean do they glow green at night?
3) What paint/technique you have used when re-painting the numbers and letters to the plexiglas?

Imperial has a different style setup than Chrysler which has letters and numbers on the plexiglas covers. Here's what Chrysler gauge/clock bottoms look like. Background color has been green? Blue? Blueish green?

My 58 De Soto: I recently installed green LEDs to replace the white bulbs - totally different look!
Looks good.
Tell us more. (as in which bulb type and where from?)
|
|
|
|
Location: The Mile High City | Hi, Dave: I ordered the BA9s LEDs from SuperBrite. I bought several whites, a red for the headlight brights indicator, and several greens. I didn't know at the time whether to go with the whites or the greens for the instruments. I had a '58 Plymouth with the green lights so I tried greens on the De Soto. All of our cars are a little different, but the De Soto dash was moderately easy to remove and get behind to replace the light bulbs. LEDs do not dim, however. They are either on or they are off. I have forgotten the price already, but it wasn't a big ticket for all the bulbs. SuperBrite is usually running a promotional offer on the website and you can usually get ten or fifteen percent off the listed price by entering a code. |

So these guys:

In addition to colours, they mention beam angle, i.e. 90 deg and 120 deg. Do you have a suggestion?
|
