Location: Santa Barbara, California | Not quite a fender or vin tag, but it's a curious little metal tag set on with two tiny screws on the top of the intake on my 59 windsor... would this indicate engine assembly date? bryan

Location: Connecticut | Even though it looks like it's been screwed on, it's actually part of the cast of the block, indicating the casting date. Ron

Location: bishop, ca | I'm curious about this feature, too.
Was a new casting made for each day (sure...); so, how were the screws and the plate incorporated into the actual
casting mold??????....if a new/different casting wasn't made, each day?

A new casting was made for every block. The mould is a timber engine block.
The plate is screwed to the outside of the timber mould and then tightly packed into dry sand. |
