Location: Georgia | It costs over $300 to have a generator restored to new condition. I had forgotten the Chrysler generators were superior to the GM ones in that they charged at slower speeds. For stock applications, it is all you need. |

Location: Colorado Springs, Colorado | you should call around for more quotes on your rebuild, $300 sounds quite steep. I had my old dodges generator rebuilt for $50 at antlers auto electric about 5 years ago. Im sure the price to do a rebuild has gone up since then but not to $300!! An alternator conversion is still the best way to go unless your going for a totally stock look.
As for the genernator thing, hes taking the components from a new mini alternator and jamming it in the case. It cant be costing him more then $150 to make them, its a neat idea but hes charging way to much for it. :/

Location: Colorado, Pike's Peak | $300 is ridiculous. Lots of Southern Cities like Charolotte or Atlanta have Generator shops that can rebuild generators for around $50-$100. Fro $300 they could make you a couple of new ones!

Location: Las Vegas, Nevada | Here's a comparison. Vegas Auto Electric, a small shop near my house, is run by a longtime automotive electrical expert. He rebuilt two generators for me, charging $80.00 a piece. He also repainted them carefully and polished the tags. He rebuilt a '68 Mopar alternator for $60.00 and a '78 reduction gear starter for $60.00, also painting them nicely.
You may want to try to find a local shop that does truck electrical, industrial DC motors, etc.

Location: Colorado, Pike's Peak | You certainly do not need to speed anything near $300 to get a generator rebuilt. Should be somewhere between $50 and $150 max. Look in the phone book in major cities for shops that advertise alternator and generator rebuilding as their ONLY business.
