hello, my names adriana, im 19 years old and i live in australia. i study graphic design full time and work part time at the local bottlo. on the 17 january this year i bought my dream car a 1961 plymouth suburban out of washington seattle.... now on the 5th august, it is finally sitting in my drive way!!

i have always loved the 1961 plymouths, and had my heart set on owning a wagon, although trying to find one was another story, there doesnt seem to be many left at all. but after 2 years of searching and many hours scouring for sale internet sites in the states, i finally found and have my dream car!

well heres the lowdown.... its a 2 owner, 4 door 1961 plymouth deluxe suburban, carnival red, pushbutton auto, slant 6, seattle washington car.... the elderly original owner accidentally drove it down a ditch in the early 90's and then when in hospital his barn fell in on it so it has some replaced panels and dings.... but nothing that cant be repaired with a little love, money and hard work. there is no rust anywhere on this car, its truely is a solid beauty! this car is so original it still has the factory plastic on the back seat and the original jack instruction leaflet is still stuck in the back of the wagon! it was delivered on the 23rd of november 1960 from the White Plymouth Centre in Renton, Washington. i have the original plymouth certified car care booklet, owners certificate and original regof for it.

i absolutely adore my suburban, its the only 1961 plymouth suburban in australia and i am honoured to be the owner of it! it will be a work in progress but i am just glad that i now have the car and it was well worth all the hours at work to be able to afford to buy it.

if youd like to know anything else about my sub just ask, ill attach some pics and oh yeah thats me sitting on it at the shipping yard this morning! lol.....

adriana

Congratulations on receiving your wagon. Can't wait for the pics. I am finally going back to Ohio on August 14 to drag mine out. It ran when I put it in storage and I should have it running again. Unfortunately, I probably will have to sell it. I have four cars in Ohio and I can't take them all back with me. I'll post a few pics when I get it out.

It has to be a major neckbender to see a barge like that coming down the road in Aussieland. You will have lots of fun with your new toy. I have one complaint about all your posts, Adriana ..... I can't hear your accent !!!! There are some people I would pay to listen to them read the phone book. You might be one of them. I know I had a whale of a good time listening to George Laurie run his jib over a weekend we spent at a DeSoto National together. I learned all sorts of new words and terms !

hello, my names adriana, im 19 years old and i live in australia. i study graphic design full time and work part time at the local bottlo.

What's a "local bottlo"? Is that Aussie for pub or bar?

Sweet ride and it looks as if it didn't suffer any damage in its shipping container - at least any more that is. The blue door is a little surprising, but I expect that was necessary to replace the door that was damaged by the previous owner when he put it in the ditch. Hopefully your plans include a repaint at some point and you'll turn it back into red.

I noticed that there is a "Fury" script on the driver's fender behind the wheel opening but there isn't one on the right. The left fender seems to be painted a darker shade of red too than the rest of the car. Maybe the left fender came from a boneyard car to replace the one that was damaged when Mr Toad took his wild ride?

The seller should have removed the Department of Defence vehicle decal before he sold it to you. Although it's expired, it still should have been removed. Maybe the old guy was former military.

Adriana, on that DoD (Dept of Defense) sticker: the red color indicates Enlisted man/person, and the "01" is its gate-pass
expiration date (2001).

If that car were mine (which it's not, ok?) I would glitz/hop-up its engine by installing an alloy intake manifold, with 4-bbl
carb, and install full-length exhaust headers, and have the camshaft be mildly turned.

Except for the cam, everything would be easily removable, and you'd have a considerable WOW-factor, when you popped the hood.

"Ya wanna see the engine, in this thing" ???????

thanks all for your comments.... i apologise for my aussie slang, local bottlo is what you call the local liquor store, lol! all along i have said that i hate the red, but now that ive seen it in real life i kinda like it, and am planing to keep it that colour. i plan to keep the slant 6 in it, sorry guys! it came with spares, there IS a spare fury bar, which i shall not be using, argghhh! the blue door, hood, and left front fender are replacements, the originals came with it, but are in bad shape. the guy sent me some pics of the car before the replaced panels, ill have to scan it and post it on here! yeah, dog dishes are original, but dont care for them much, my good mate chris gave me a set of full size caps which i shall put on instead, but i do intend to keep the dogdishes as they are original to the car, just not parade around with em on. about the fury script thats on the replacement panel, so its not meant to be on my Sub, as the DeLuxe wagon is equal to a Savoy. the only damage i can see is that somewhere along its journey over here the far left headlight ring got scrapped/ hit which not only made a dent but actually split it, so i have now joined the long list of people searching for headlight rings for their '61! cheers adriana

Welcome aboard and congrats Adriana!  Nice looking project wagon.  And at least you get to drive it now!  We were in Mudgee, Australia a couple summers ago and didn't get to see any old American iron except one '57 Chebby 4dr Sedan.  (It even had the 'Roo Bars on it!)  Glad you got a good ol' cruisemobile.  Have loads of fun!

Adriana, you're gonna have to bat the guys off left and right once they see you pull up in that baby - not that you didn't have to before, but.....

You're a lucky gal - got my first land yacht (1957 Lincoln Premiere 2 door hardtop) when I was 19 years old as well.

Actually I kind of like the darker red the Fury fender is painted. If it were mine I'd paint it that color.

Good for you that you're planning on keeping the Slant 6. Here's some food for thought if you ever want to add EFI to it and get some serious horsepower:

http://www.moparmusclemagazine.com/techarticles/mopp_0602_chrysler_slant_six_engine/index.html

"When we finished pulling the little Slant Six to its full rpm, we did get more horsepower with the EFI setup-quite a bit actually. How does 320 at 6,000 rpm sound? Even torque was up to 303 lb-ft at 5,000 rpm."

Now that would be a draggin' wagon.

Actually for a car that has the rear end as a front, that is a mighty cool vehicle. (Yes the front was actually designed for a rear end from the beginning)

I always suspected this since it looks to be a direct rip-off from the rear of a 1958 Chevrolet!

vaughan, i did go nuts!! im impatient at the best of times, it was lucky for everyone that my Sub arirved when it did! lol... yeah, yours would have a '60 plymouth dash being a canadian export car... so your sparkly steering wheel would be round, when the '61 astro wheels are square. 55coronado, oh nice taste! i adore the '57 lincolns also!! cheers adriana

I have referred to those 61 Plymouths as "disco volante" - flying saucers since way back. I think that they're super cool and the instrument panel is also spectacular. I have read that the sales went down the drain that year, well maybe that's what make them valuable today.

Yep - I'm 36 now, but I still remember when I bought that '57 Lincoln. Smooth lines, zero rust and fins that were tasteful, yet didn't carry an ounce of BS.

Cool little similarity, Adriana: We both got our yachts at age 19 - yours shows 61,783 miles on it's odometer, while my '57, when she became mine in October of 1990, was a 61,709 mile original car.

You're gonna love and spoil that car more than you know.

Congratulations on the car! I think all of us enjoy not only owning the best looking cars from the period, but also the feeling you get from owning a car that few people have or know anything about. In that you have the only one in the country, having a car few people have is an understatement. Good for you.

Be sure to stick around the board. It is a great source of help.

i had a spare couple of hours between working the whole weekend in which i did a couple of things to my sub.... got the original radio working [i thought it was stuffed, but only had a faulty connection] the first song that drifted out was a neil diamond song then polished half the front bumper [came up a million dollars], and put a new set of spark plug leads in it... 1961 savoy, i remember dad telling me how you and your daughter found your car [i was so jelous] if youd like the VIN and VNP decoded ive got a '61 decoder here, it tunes out some interesting facts on the cars.... did you keep the slanty in yours? cheers adriana

i have a question? the seats in my Sub are original but are not '61 fabric, they are original though and have never been recovered.... is it possible that the fabric is '60 plymouth because it was a early production car? and they were using up left overs from the previous year? or would it have been more of a special order? adriana

Hi Adriana, I finally found the thread about this; http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=21660&...
My method works, but it's not easy! The tool in the last post is not too difficult to produce and it'll work good. The special pincer works like a dream but is expensive and rare.

ok well, heres the update on my wagon (which i named oscar...) since easter me and dad have been pulling it down (really stressful i tell you) then today it got taken to the body shop... the tow truck driver came when i was outside taking pics of it, and said am i taking the red one, on my reply he was really excited and said he was hoping so as he drives past everyday and admirers it... he told my mum that he thought the car was beautiful (im glad im not the only mad one) he also told me that hes a freelance writer for the new chrysler magazine thats just started over here... upon arrival at the body shop, he said that so many people were turning their heads around looking at it on the two hour drive, he said he felt like a star (well they were looking at oscar not him, and with no badges on the car they would not have had any idea what it actually was) even the body guy said it was rather unusual, and asked how many were in australia, when told him your looking at it, i think he got a shock and i think he liked it also... upon leaving the body shop and reversing out the drive way i got tears in my eyes leaving my dear oscar there, i felt like i was putting my own child up for adoption... i know ill see it again in a couple of months its just sad... and when i got home and it wasnt sitting in the driveway as usual it was even more sad... i sound like a nutcase i know but i adore my car and i would not sell it for the world... now i have to get some of the chrome straightened and polish the rest of it, organise some carpets and find a painter :S (long story) but at least progress is being made and i am one step closer to getting oscar on the road..... cheers adriana

Adriana,
It must be really exciting to have your car's body repair and repaint.
I hope you will keep us posted with pictures. Will you document the car's progress at the bodyshop?
I don't remember if you mention it somewhere else, but what will be you car's color? Anything done to the interior?
I hope everything will turn up good.

Wow, your topography is very similar to SoCal (and vice-versa!).

Nice view of your car's upper-installed rear view mirror. Now, we have to compare it to the appearance of the CHP-spec/cop
car rear view mirrors.

catman: i did originally want to change the colour to maize yellow with an alpine white roof... but now the original carnival red has grown on me so will remain carnival red... the interior needs nothing much... the seats are mint and the door trims fab condition also... need to reattach the bottom of the padded dash into the dash, get carpets, i bought a gauge surround thats in better condition than the one in there now and also have a dash clock to put in (thanks randy!) and thats about all for the inside... the just need to get some of the chrome straightened and get some white walls, put my blue dots on my new taillights, get some moonies and then reassemble... just one a NOS manifold/ carby on ebay (cost more than the $ i make in one week :S) and it needs a new exhaust also... everything after that should be ship shape, and hopefully i dont find anything else that is broken and needs replacing :S

neil: first i thought you meant typography... but i think that topography means landscape doesnt it? im going to polish my fury bar on the weekend lol...

cheers adriana

Polishing-off a Fury bar? Is that like a local 'watering hole' ?

In that case, I've polished-off a few of them myself (and had some FWDLK help in that regard, back in Tulsa/07, too) .

The 'mascara' and the 'eyelashes' are OK on 61 PLY's, but that orthodontic-retainer-appliance-looking grille guard is not
compatible with the lovely waterfall grille's appearance, imho.

But, hey, orthodontists make a lot of money, installing those things...

oscars home again... got back from the body shop today... i never realised that there were so many dents (well there all gone now)... as you can see he fixed all the dents and also re-fabricated the spare wheel well... also fixed the hinge on my bonnet... if you remember the dents that existed you will see what a marvelous job he has done... the desoto has been pulled out the shed for oscar to go in... yay! stainless is getting straightened as we speak, and found someone over here that stocks the bushes and ball joints that i need... we vacumed oscar today, also scrapped the old body shutz off of the floors and dad polished the door jams, they came up beautifully... now just need a painter, carpets, exhaust and white walls.... jason the tow truck driver asked if i had a name for it and i replied "yeah, oscar" he said he had been thinking about it and came up with hank... but thought oscar was better... i told him that id keep 'hank' in mind for my next sub adriana

Very kool work. I guess all the car floors look solid. When will you give oscar a new coat of paint?
Will you use new weatherstrips? Is your headliner cardboard? Will you keep it or is it damage? How about the chrome?
Again very impressive work.

so many questions... ok, here goes... floors are solid, except the spare wheel well which the body guy fabricated a new panel... oscar will get new paint as soon as i can find someone willing to paint him and at a DECENT price... i dont think new weatherstrips are in order.... headliner is cardboard, only problem is that it has drooped a little, the front section has a tear but is covered by the sunvisor, but i will replace the panel if i can find one... the chrome is fine, 5 pieces of stainless are getting straightened at the moment, headlight rings are dented, but i will roll with them until i can find some in better condition as it costs a fortune to get them straightened, the rest of the chrome with a polish comes up a treat, so there is no need to re-chrome... cheers adriana

Wow - very nice lookng work - he's come a long way!! Makes me wish could have kept my '61 and gotten it to that point. It's always scary to see your baby go away to the shop, there's so many horror stories. My DeSi is going away for metal work this summer, as soon as the guy is finished the '58 Vette he's working on now. I trust him ( so I say fingers crossed) - he's an old family friend and he worked in the local Dodge dealer's body shop for 30 yrs - one of the dealers Chrysler is now closing!! He's fabricating the patches, and I'm doing all the filling using lead, like in the days of old. Once your Oscar's paint is all done, he'll be starting to look like a new car! Post lots of pics!!

thankyou yeah my dads good mate (who is very fussy), knew this body guy cos he did all the body work on his '60 dodge polara d-500... erik the body guy is a wizz, hes in his late 60's, early 70's and is amazing... i was so stressed when i was getting told over the phone what was happening, i almost had a heart attack on more than one occasion, but i did trust him, and it worked out fabulously... i wish i had pictures of the work being done, because it would be interesting to see, for example how he tackled the huge dent in the rear quarter panel, the petrol tank was right behind it and its a double panel... but probably best i cant see or i would hyperventilate, lol... neil: not what i had thought of, the original owner was called oscar goodwin and when my workshop manuals i had bought on ebay arrived they had 'oscar written on the cover' i called my car oscar once and it kinda stuck, and now everyone uses the name... cheers adriana

I'd say it would have involved welding a 'pulling hook(s)' onto the panel and a slide hammer. Oops, I've said too much.

Great stuff Adriana - getting closer all the time. Don't forget to keep the folks at H6P updated.

Hey Adriana, good to see some serious progress. I think the original red should look nice. Are you doing the roof white or leaving it red? I think either will look great...keep up the good work...Anth.

Adriana, I think Oscar would look good in solid black - personal preference to be sure, but that wagon, with it's minimal side trim, would look clean as hell in black, IMO.....

hey what kinda car have you got tonsley park?

Lots of Valiants Adriana but I've always loved FL cars. Passed up a cheap '59 CR 4dr sedan last year and am having lustful thoughts about the light blue '60 Windsor coupe on MM at the moment.

heya guys and gals... well oscar is off to the paint shop tomorrow... it was so hard to find a painter interested in painting such a large car and for not such a large sum of money... but i was able to finally, the turn around time is 3 weeks, so a lot quicker than some other painters... dad just finished all the front end work today, nice NOS manifold and carby under the hood, new wish bone and bushes, new ball joints along with a few other things... after the paints done, i need the exhaust done, need carpet (as i cant find any of the floor mats) i also need to get my dented headlight rings repaired... then i just need to put the car all back together and polish the stainless and bumpers... it then needs to be inspected and cleared for registration (this maybe the biggest hurdle) and hopefully this will all be done by february so that i can take it to 'all chrysler day' and 'mopar mega cruise'... wish me luck... will post pics when i have them... cheers adriana

Hey Adriana, The big day has finally come! Well done on getting Oscar this far along in his resto. Can't wait to see him all shiny and new. Are you going to watch the progress or just wait till he's ready? Frank

i have a question? the seats in my Sub are original but are not '61 fabric, they are original though and have never been recovered.... is it possible that the fabric is '60 plymouth because it was a early production car? and they were using up left overs from the previous year? or would it have been more of a special order? adriana

What makes you think the fabric is not 1961?

well i did because i had only seen two '61 subs with the same fabrics, i just thought it was left over from the previous year or something, but i have solved this problem by scoring a dealership paint/fabric/data/bulletin folder and in there is this fabric and it was available for the deluxe model, which solves the question as the two suburbans that had this fabric were the only two deluxe models that we have found... so problem solved... cheers adriana

well here are the first photos from the paint shop... the body work needed a little bit of tidying up, they have rubbed back, undercoated and have almost finished smoothing it... oscar looks more like a concrete sculpture than a car at the moment... painting will commence in the next few days... whoop whoop!! how exciting... adriana

Congrats Adriana, you're almost there!  Gonna be nice ride when it's done.  Hoping to have ours painted this winter, and your pics are just egging me to get moving on it.  Can't wait to see it finished.

Here's a weird question, that I've never heard answered, before: Adriana, do you Southern types have different names
for the four earthly weather seasons?

I mean; there is no reason why Winter/Summer must necessarily refer to cold/hot seasons.

I've heard expressions like "your/our what-ever", but officially, is it "Springtime" where you live, or do you call this season
(like the different terms for the parts of a car) something else?????

southern types, lol... no we are normal: dec-feb is summer, mar-may is autumn, jun-aug is winter, sept-nov is spring... hell, im not that car obsessed that i would start renaming seasons of the year, days of the week, months of the year after cars... adriana

Oh, ok; the month names stay the same (obviously), but "Summer" and "Winter" are variable, but always refer to warm/cold weather.

Your/English cars' "hoods" are 'our' car's roofs; our 'hoods' are your cars' bonnets.

Here's one I bet you didn't know: your cars' boots are our cars' convertible-top coverings (that we snap-on, to hide the exposed
appearance of the retracted 'top'--'hood').

And, your water DOES drain down in an anti-clockwise direction (in your radiators---just to keep this on FWDLK-thread---lolol)?

Adriana, weren't you considering two-toning the car, at some earlier point?

And, does your water drain-down in an anti-clockwise direction?

I thought you 'guys' were going to ask me how 'smart' (-wise, get it?) that my clocks were, not which direction
they run, around the dial.

Is there a u-tube posting for water draining, in the So-hemi-sphere? That video could also-maybe have been reversed, too,
so I may just have to go personally observe water-draining in OZ, before I'll believe it--hmmmm...Wikipedia, or Snopes, maybe....?

You're moving right along with the resto. Congrats on getting it thru paint. Now the fun begins.

Did he paint the car with the doors, fenders, hood, etc., already bolted on, or did he paint each panel separately and then reattach ?

I know that it's getting along toward your summer, but how long does that paint need to cure, before you can rub/polish it out?

It's so shiny, now, it looks to be clear-coated; rubbing out a clear coat is relatively easy to do, as you are merely knocking
it down. The color is permanently preserved, beneath the clear .

the rims that are on there now are not the originals as the originals are still at the paint shop to be resprayed red... i would like supercushions, but cant afford them right now, so will probably settle for skinny whites for a while (which i can get over here and are way cheaper) i have the original dog dishes (and a set of NOS ones) and also a set of full caps... probably go with the dog dishes to start with... cheers adriana

Actually for a car that has the rear end as a front, that is a mighty cool vehicle. (Yes the front was actually designed for a rear end from the beginning)

I didnt know that the front was originally the rear!,I heard that originally Exner had a a single fin on this model that was shorn off after he was let go and fins were out.

Does anyone have any concept photos or sketches of the finned '61's?

The dash is great, too bad the outside doesnt have fins!

You know? If you stare at the front end design, you can see where the fender shape and the scalloped trim might well
fit onto a rear end design, and even the windshield, in A.'s pic, above, can be envisioned as being the back light on
a car.

Now, about the GRILLE, I dunno....what was supposed to be there, originally.

Wiz, you (-anybody?) got any pre-production photos of a car with the 61 PLY front end appearing as being that car's rear end
styling?

Sven, you may be thinking of the XNR sports car, which had the Bent-6 engine, and which was last seen being driven by
an Iraqi Republican Guard, from Kuwait, on the road (aka: Blood Alley) toward Baghdad, in 1991.

Dunno if it survived the aerial massa-cre inflicted by the USAF, on that highway.

bloody head light rings!, after searching every where for years i finaly found some in the bottom of the south island of nz, got 4 off a lady down there,i have a couple of rough ones ,if they are better than yours you are welcome to them, i will get a pic up soon. even the ones i got arnt mint, but for the first time in a lot of years the car has 4 ,did 272 miles in it last weekend and loved every one!,even my wife who gets real bad car sickness normally found it super comfy to travel in, americana festival in feb and the mopar nationals in march yee ha, you are going to love it when you get out with oscar and can go for a good drive. i wonder how many of these wagons are still alive and driving, yours like mine would be the only ones in each country, now i just need a 61 coupe for the wife .

Vauhghn & Adriana, there may be many other places, around the world, but after seeing the quality of restoration that
kingoftrim.com provides to aluminum and stainless steel pieces, I now have no qualms about having to buy non-
show-quality pieces, as long as the purchase price reflects the physical condition OF the used piece(s).....because,
once King of Trim is done with the piece(s) it/they WILL look like brand new!

hey vaughan... ill tally you up a list of the suburbans i have found and their cuurent condition/ status... if you need your headlight rings repaired and no one over there will do them, theres a elderly gent over here by the name of geoff chase, he is a mopar fanatic, he is a wizz... he straightened all my stainless and it came up looking NOS, many of which i thought was beyond repair... when i receive my other three rings i will chose the best and get them to him, they will come up amazing im sure, i dont think he charges too much either, for the work he does its worth it... ill keep my eye peeled for a nice '61 coupe, what colour would she prefer? i get bad car sickness too, but i find that old cars arent as bad for it as new ones... cheers adriana

cool picture... yes im not quiet sure the story of my rear view mirror... they are supposed to be dash mounted and i have the place in the dash its meant to be in, but there is like some metal ball blocking the socket... the roof mounted one looks like it has been there for years (if not since new...) i have enquired with people as too what the mirror is from, some said prehaps a CHP mirror? but no certainties as yet... they look alot nicer on the dash but i am told it will be much more convenient where it is... i will respect the car and leave it where it is, because there are holes there now... im sure i will someday discover why it is there... i bought some front end parts from a friend called pete in NZ with a heap of '60 plymouths and an extremely rusty '61... i gave him your email address ages ago as he wanted to talk to you about your car as he tried to buy it years ago and wondered where it had gone, not sure if he got into contact with you... adriana

Many people put roof-mounted mirrors in the FL cars, especially wagons. It's because you can't see over the tailgate with a low-mount mirror.

Mine had both a roof mount and dash mount mirror when I got it, lol! I bet the ball in the socket is the original ball-joint that mounted the factory mirror. You can use a pair of pliers to carefully loosen the collar and see what's inside it.

Let's see some update pictures!

there are no updated pics, because at present i am waiting for parts from america to be able to do anything... the only thing thats happened since the last pics is that we took the rest of the headliner out and i need the paint guy to come and treat the remaining half... once thats done, i can get the headliner back in, once i get my rubber floor mat the seats and everything can go back in, once i get my indicator housings they can go in, and once i get my headlight rings they can go get repaired... the glass also has the get put in, but the headliner needs to be in for that, once the glass is back in all the door panels and surrounds, and surrounds from around the back windows can go back in... i have a week left until i finish my graphic design course and then will get stuck right into it... adriana

Hey, Vaughn; your car is a right-hand-drive model, but, its speedometer is calibrated in miles, not kilos????

Is that a lake, over on your right side?

Member countries of the British Commonwealth (Australia, Canada, New Zealand, etc.) used Imperial measurements until the 1970's / 1980's. Thus the miles on the speedometer. Canada went metric in 1978, although Chrysler Canada switched for the 1977 model year.

so yours was made in 60?, how do you find out when they where made, all i know with mine is that it was registered in nz on the 6th of july 1961, trying to find some wheels for mine at the moment , had to give the wires back, still have the orig wheels but 4 have been widened to 8.5 inch so will powder coat them chrome and put some stainless trims on for now,i want to try some late model 300c wheels on mine and see what they fit like,a set on trade me at the moment $400 for 18s so are a cheap option

Vaughn, over/down on our website's "Fender Tag Decoding" message-board, are two Sticky-messages, which tell you
how to buy a copy of your car's IBM build card.

That photocopy will show you your car's official birthday; your car Paint/Trim data plate (as discussed/shown on various
threads therein) will show you how to find your car's "Scheduled" build date--which is not necessarily its actual build
date.

im here vaughan! no progress posts as there has been none... i am waiting for the painter to come and treat the other half of the inside of the roof now that all the headliner is out... this needs to be done pronto so that i can get the headliner back in and also the glass... i am waiting for parts from the states... then i can put the floor mats in and the seats and once i get my parts from the states i can put the door trims back in etc... so it is all just a waiting game at present that i am getting highly frustrated about as i have such a short time to get this on the road and when people are slack they make the deadline closer and closer and also make the possibility that it wont get done in time more of a reality... so yeah, thats where oscar is at... your so lucky yours is done vaughan... adriana

ps. i have the original 14" rims all resprayed ready to rock and roll, i have to get some white walls and i have NOS dog dish caps for it!

thanks vaughan... great picture... your messages and photos inspire me to keep going... i need mine finished and to pass regency ready for all chrysler day on the 27/28 february... its oh so very frustrating... things are coming along, just rather slowly... your lucky yours is on the road already and that you are able to enjoy it, it looks fabulous! its funny, i think that most people thinks less of their car than everyone else... i always look at oscar and then pictures of others and think it doesnt look as good... its silly really, i guess i have nothing better to do with it not on the road... merry christmas to you and your family vaughan... and keep the photos coming... adriana

d500neil - 2009-10-27 1:11 PM You know? If you stare at the front end design, you can see where the fender shape and the scalloped trim might well fit onto a rear end design, and even the windshield, in A.'s pic, above, can be envisioned as being the back light on a car. Now, about the GRILLE, I dunno....what was supposed to be there, originally. Wiz, you (-anybody?) got any pre-production photos of a car with the 61 PLY front end appearing as being that car's rear end styling?

Neil,

Why do you constantly have to harsh a guys mellow? He has a really nice car. Get over it and compliment him instead of telling him a bunch of eliteist crap. Just because it has nothing to do with your precious D-500 model isn't license to crap on his parade.

It's Christmas. Try and be a little charitable, Neil. Remember other folks are just as proud of their car as you are of yours, only we don't s**t on you for it.

Merry Christmas,

Mike

Merry Xmas to you, Mike!

BTW, Mr. Cheap-shot, the comment was previously made about about the styling of the 61 Plymouth, earlier on this
thread, that I commented upon.

BTW, I sent A. a photo of my office, or was there something else, Adriana?

Please feel free to PM me.

Adriana: I read on another post that you found NOS rings... where in the world did you find NINE of them?? As a former 61 owner, I know how hard those are to find!!!!

I see......... you make disparaging comments, hijacking a thread in the process (as usual), I call you on it, and I'm the one taking the cheap shot. Must be nice to live in your little D-500 world Neil.

You get the gist of it. Maybe you'll think twice next time. One can have hope.

We all got that picture of the Neil in the office. Sure, it scared the children, but what the hey ?!

I think next year's secret santa REQUIRED gift to everyone should be thicker skin.

Let me be the first to just come out and say it ....

I'm just a nobody schmuck that knows a little and likes to make fun of myself as well as most things around me. Nothing but pure luck and some diligent digging landed a nice car in my hands. I am no authority on anything and anybody's opinion is worth at least as much as mine. You can think what you may of my comments, but I mean nothing hurtful. I try to share what I do know and keep things light by joking around. Maybe Neil is too harsh ? ...... but I don't take him that way. He's just another schmuck like the rest of us. A good reference, but no threat if you don't take him too seriously. That ownership falls on the listener.

Time for everyone to get in the meds line.

I would just like to say that I am very jealous of all of you that have FL wagons, no matter the year.  I really like them and hope that one day I will build or buy one.  Finished or not, I'd take any of them!  Thanks all!

Adriana, and all ya'll looking for 'Burbs - my old '57 Sport Suburban is now in the hands of a Mopar mucsle car restorer here in NY and it has been languising in dry storage for 3 yrs, now he's decided he'll never get to it - he has at least 4 or 5 Challenger/Cuda projects to do. It needs some roof rust fixed and floor work, but it's a real decent car to restore, and pretty much complete. Has rare factory tinted glass all around, and is White & Red! Good 301 V8 & TF. The price is right to is good buyer, probably can be had for a little more than 1K. Anyone interested PM me and I"ll put you in touch.

That is amazing. That is the ONE thing that everyone that has a '61 hunts for - nice, or just usable, headlight rings.

Great find Adriana. Merry Christmas, and we all enjoy seeing updates on your Suburban...

Super nice job Adriana!! You're lucky that the floor mats were good, the ones in my Sweep are shot, nobody repops them, and it's harder to find good originals than to find headlght rings (tho' you did OK on those!). Keep on keepin' on!

yeah the back mat is pretty bad... and the front mat doesnt match... but ill have to get on and get my pink forwardlook mats from jim to cover up the mess... yeah, the seats are original... although accidently when i got it over here before we started the resto, it was just parked in our yard and i didnt think to throw a sheet over the seats until one day i realised that the sun had made the factory plastic go rather brown on the corners, so anyway now i have learnt my lesson and have them all covered up even though the cars in the shed... well clay, i have owned the car for two years, although it didnt arrive until august 2008... a couple more weeks and we should be ready for our regency inspection... how exciting! adriana

NICE!!! I like that color interior with the red exterior, it's a great combo. Drive safe and enjoy your ride. I'm saving up for paint and body for my Sub, but life and the economy keep getting in the way. At least I'm there mechanically so I am driving and having fun.....Ralph from Brooklyn

Wow, he looks like a million bucks!!! You and your father have done a great job on your car, thank you for sharing the resto with us here.

Adriana, do you think you would be interested in being in a book about station wagon owners? I've been asked to be a part of it and also to solicit other folks' stories about their cars. I think the story of you and your father building Oscar would be a GREAT story to share. If you want I can forward the author's contact information to you-

Well I guess its about time for an update... I have been enjoying being able to drive oscar around at last and also to have caught the end of the cruzin' season over here... We have had a few dramas with the brakes, but come winter I will get him serviced and also look at the brakes again, and fix a few things that have come to light... We've been to several events (All American Day, Mopar Mega Cruise, All Chrysler Day, Anzac Day Cruise, Kustom Kulture, Forwardlook Cruise, as well as the monthly Zipple Cruises...) People have been rather fascinated and also have had lots of questions... Mostly though people just want to know what the black pads on the tailgate are for, lol...

Oscar has been a bit popular and was photographed for Chrysler Action magazine (which came out yesterday) also Restored Cars, and was filmed for a DVD today about the American car cruise scene here in Adelaide...

Here's a photo of the feature in Chrysler Action... (I feel a rear view picture of Oscar would have been a better use of the space in the top right corner, lol)
