Looks like the scheduled September 14th transfer of the Belvedere may be delayed a bit.....

Car's possession should shift soon

By RANDY KREHBIEL World Staff Writer
9/10/2007
Last Modified: 9/10/2007 2:12 AM

A sister of the deceased contest winner is seen as the rightful owner.

Tulsa's buried Belvedere might not be transferred to a new owner Friday as planned, but it should happen soon, those involved in the transaction say.

"We're really close," said Arvest Bank President Don Walker, who has been in charge of figuring out who has the best claim on the 1957 Plymouth extricated June 14 from a vault under the Tulsa County Courthouse.

The car, which is in poor condition because of water damage, was to be presented Friday to the winner of a contest, conducted 50 years ago as part of the state's semicentennial, to predict Tulsa's 2007 population.

The closest guess was by Raymond Humbertson of Cumberland, Md., who died in 1979. His wife, Margaret Humbertson, died nine years later, leaving her modest estate to two siblings, a nephew and a church. The Humbertsons had no children.

Initially, it was assumed that Raymond Humbertson's two elderly sisters had the best claim on the car, but lawyers determined that Margaret Humbertson's heirs might be first. Walker said he had determined that all of Margaret Humbertson's siblings are dead, and a representative of her family members told him they believe the car should go to the Humbertsons.

"I'm satisfied the right per son to receive the car is Mr. Humbertson's older sister," Walker said.

That would be Catherine Humbertson Johnson, who lives with her younger sister Levada Humbertson Carney in Bowling Green, Md.

"We're waiting on an affidavit saying all of Mrs. Humbertson's siblings are deceased," Walker said. "At that point, we can give the car to (Johnson)."

Walker had feared that he would have to get waivers from all of Margaret Humbertson's nieces and nephews and their descendants.

"I talked to the attorneys and determined that, based on the rules, since Mrs. Humbertson has no living siblings, Mr. Humbertson's sisters would be the nearest living relative," he said.

The Belvedere does not have a title and its serial number is unreadable, so ownership will be transferred with a simple bill of sale, Walker said. One of Johnson's nephews, Robert Carney, has arranged to have the Belvedere taken to New Jersey for treatment with a rust-removing compound.

That distresses some Tulsans who want the car to stay.

"We've had no one express an interest in trying to raise the funds to buy the car," Walker said. "That opportunity is probably still out there."

Good to hear that the stoopid idea of sending the car to New Jersey for "rust treatment" is not exactly a guaranteed thing yet. Why the heck is 57 Heaven not stepping up to the plate to buy this thing and put it on display??? I have sent them a personal email but received no response of course. Rusty or not...it is STILL the most original 50 year old car on planet earth!!! Surely that accounts for something...?

Oh, Glenn.....I believe that the "deflowering" is a done-deal; the newspaper article was just using the subjunctive tense, to
cover its ass , as in : "anything is still possible, if it has not actually occurred, yet"....

Where art thou, oh 57 Heaven...........?

Yeah, I stopped referring to the car as Virg, when it appeared that its name should truly be: MESS Belvidere.

Yep we park on a drive-way and drive on a road...although on the wrong side...
"We" ( not me...) play football with hands and feet too, but don't wear all that padding or protective helmets... It's called Rugby Football, and apparently "we" are world leaders at it.
With the soccer comments, I think someone is getting NZ mixed up with soccer. "We" suck at soccer!
But it's all a load of crap that sucks people into sitting round staring at an electronic box, and most watchers even seem to yell at that box, which is strange because neither it nor the players shown on the box can hear them...
We buy our moonshine from a liquor store. I have one at the end of my road that sells beer 24/7. We can make our own moonshine, but it wouldn't be as good as Neil's! We sometimes drink during the day, but usually at night.
End of NZ lesson 101.
Glenn.
PS. FWDLK content. Part wanted. Vacuum advance for 57 Fury.
Part # IAZ-2023RG...(and I have been looking for so long that I did not have to look that part number up...)

Good point, Glenn: why are people different from Vacuum Advances???

Vac Adv's all LOOK the same, on the outside, but a greatly different, on the INSIDE.

PEOPLE look different, on the outside, but are identical on the INSIDE (mostly true!)

Neil. Perhaps you can educate me....what exactly is different to these different part numbered vacuum advances? Is it something you can measure and if so, how? I was once lead to believe that it was just the spring and the thickness of washers where the vacuum line goes in, but the thing is, NOS advances don't have these parts there anyway...? And how will it affect the running of the engine?
Glenn.

wait until friday night, when o.u. will kick the s**t out of tulsa. later, in the "bedlam" game, o.u. will kick the s**t out of o.s.u. thus, you will see an entire state turn upon itself not once but twice.

again, that is this coming friday night, on ESPN2.

actually, i agree that tulsa will give our defense the biggest challenge it's faced so far this year. they have a fine, fine quarterback who wanted to go to o.u. but was not offerred a scholarship, so i think he'll DEFINITELY be motivated.

by the way, i just got back from watching caleb play, and his team won! stroud 24, prague 0!!! yay team!!!

neal, i think texas might just get a serious whuppin'. my daughter's gonna go down to big d and stay with my sis; it ought to be a great weekend! that game has become routinely the battle for the big 12 south championship, so it ought to live up to it's long-held classic status. it should be nationally televised, it always is.

Right on man, many of my fathers side of the family was born in Sweet home Alabammy. I spent a few different summers down there with different family. Love the country around Decatur and Florence not sure how much family is still alive down there they were all kind of old when I was a teenager. I know its sad I have not kept in touch. But I do have a lot of family up here in indiana. I do miss Coach Bryant He was awesome to watch as a kid. Sorry for the ramblings. Wahoooooooo!!!!!!

o.u. sadly did as well as the university of texas, but did not suffer the national humiliation that the hapless o.s.u. cowboys suffered at troy, alabama, against a division I-AA school.

a greatly chastened number 10 ranked sooner nation goes on to face what was expected to be the big XII south playoff game, while the unranked cowboys go against the unranked aggies to see who will lead the big XII in conference play..........for a week..........

meanwhile, the pokes continue to delude themselves that an angry coach translates into BCS hopes........

Isn't there supposed to be some sort of football game, to be performed in your area, this weekend, of some Regional
interest?

i'm punishing the game for the crappy performance of the sooners and longhorns by not making a big deal out of it.

i'm also trying not to set myself up for more humiliation in the future. the boys dug their way into this one, they're gonna have to dig their way out...........
