...I hope; Clive Reeve attempted to HIJACK a thread, over on the GEN DISC board
by suggesting that the date for the OFFICIAL Tulsarama Reunion be set for June 2009.

I started to agree with him, but realized that he was trying to induce general panic in the
poor folks who read those threads by talking about a non-related subject.

So, here the question is properly discussed: I have no problemos at all with a June 2009
reunion (as it affords NO "reasonable excuses, or plausible-deniability, on scheduling
conflicts!!) but I wonder where the best place FOR it, may be?

The answer PROBABLY depends upon the whereabouts of the car, at that time.

THIS time, though, I may fly-in; unless we have the reunion at some quiet close-by
venue, like LOST WAGES, NV (!!!)

At least; we won't get politely asked to retire, from our drinking-site, by a house dick,
in Vegas!!!!

...of course, the Reunion MIGHT be held considerably "sooner" (sorry: TX!) if the car might be suitably-protected, with
a scheduled Grand-Exhibit-Unveiling at 57 Heaven, or somewhere's else, before then!!!

Right now, it looks to be a wait (or is that :"waste"?) -and-see proposition, but , for "scheduling" purposes, June 15-ish, 2009
is SET!!!!---subject to an earlier availability/necessity to see The Car, when it may be unveiled, somewhere, and pending
a venue determination!!!..........

It's GONNA happen (somewhere; someday, but no-later-than 6/15/09).----Clive SAID so!

YA,, Blame it ALL on ME...

OK, Hopefully all the Ownership and Prodding of " The Miss Belvedere " will be Finished, And she will be Safely Housed Away in a Museum, ( 57 Heaven ),, Regardless - We go to HER,, 15th June 2009.. Most people were Agreeing on a 2 Year Re-union, So Let,s set the Date , The Location can be Added Later..
Everyone Should DRIVE,, Some People i spoke to in Tulsa who Flew in did Regret it and said how much they wished they had Drove they FINS !! Also there was 1 guy who Trailored his, And STILL wishs he Drove ,We ALL know who he IS.. Also there was Others who Didn,t attend Who wish now they Had.. So with just over 21 Months to Go,, Are we All in Agreement.. It isn,t just to see Miss Belvedere , It,s a Re-union of FORWARDLOOK...
For some it,s just a 1000 mile Trip or Less,, I have to Buy ANOTHER Car and do a 3000 Mile Trip, Or i am Considering Bringing my 59 Dodge Home for a Couple Weeks..
Whats your Thought,s ???????????????

Yeah: OK, you win (again; blighter!) I'll drive....IF it's no further away, than Bransonburgville, MO.

Sheeeeiiiit, that'll be MORE than 3 day's driving, for me, to get THERE!

I sure DON'T wanna go back to T-Town, if it's only to see Ms. Belvie all stripped-down of her vestments!!!

Of COURSE, that will NOT happen, 'cause ain't nobuddy gonna pay nuthin, to transport the wreckage BACK to Tulsa, from
the East Coastal area!----The family's REALLY been smoking-something, if they think that the City of Tulsa, or anyone else
is going to finance the car's transportation back to TULSA, forany further "unveiling" ceremony!!

In all likelyhood, the car will be transported from the east coast, to where ever it will ultimately reside (any big wrecking yards, close by?)
after it may be stripped-down, by Ultra One.

You got in with that Question whilst i was writing,,, 2 or 5 years was mentioned on another thread, But most didn,t appear to want to wait 5 years , So 2 years seemed more popular, I will go with Either , 2009 or 2012 , As long as were all still Kicking... But the latter seems A long way Away...

What does everyone Else Reckon... 2 or 5

Nah, it's gotta be 2 years, or sooner (y'all DID get that joke, right? Tejas'ians HATE [Okie-]Sooners, and presumably,
vice-versa!) ; after more'n a couple years, we'd all forget what each other LOOKS like (like, like, that horrible pic of some
ELDERLY gentleman, at John's wedding, that cha'll thought was beautiful-me!!!) and, probably, come-Hell-or-high-water
markings, Ms. Belvie will probably be "re-unveiled" somewhere, and that would make a logical venue, to re-convene
our discusions!!!

boomer sooner there, poke! gettin' fired up, the north texas and georgia games are getting mighty close! i think everybody's pretty fired up this year.

back on topic, maybe 3 years would be a good compromise. i think five is too long, but we don't want to lose out on the "anticipation" factor, either. naturally, i'd "sooner" ya'll come back to oklahoma, but branson would also be good (for me!) . kansas city is also nice, and has attractions/ accommodations. hmmm, i'm beginning to notice a possible missouri bias.........

then again, for neil's sake we could go to amarillo. just hope that the wind's not blowing out of the wrong direction!

Here is a Copy of the LINK that Ron Posted...

A positive prognosis

KELLY KERR / Tulsa World
Robert Carney (left) and Dwight Foster look inside the 1957 Belvedere that was unearthed from the Tulsa County Courthouse lawn this summer. Carney is a member of the Maryland family that won the car and Foster is a New Jersey businessman whose company will try to preserve the car.

By RANDY KREHBIEL World Staff Writer
11/2/2007

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Complete coverage of Tulsa’s famous buried car, including a story archive, slide shows and videos.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Unearthed car's owners have plans to preserve it

Dwight Foster isn't ****eyed but he is an optimist.

Looking over the crusty remains of the 1957 Plymouth Belvedere lifted in June from a 50-year-old time capsule, the New Jersey industrialist said, "It's actually not as bad as I thought it might be."

That came as a surprise to many of those familiar with the Belvedere. Many and maybe most of its years under ground were also spent under water, and the car was much the worse for it.

But Foster and Robert Carney, a member of the Maryland family officially declared winner of the Belvedere on Thursday, have big plans for the car.

"I want to treat this car like an artifact from the Titanic," Foster said, "clean it up and scrape the barnacles off it, so to speak. I feel like there's a better than 75 percent chance we can get the engine to run."

That doesn't mean Foster and Carney intend to make the car driveable.

"We want to preserve the car, not restore it," Foster said. "We're not going to replace any more pieces than we have to get it 'up on its haunches.' "

By that, Foster said, he means setting on all four tires at an even keel. As is, the Belvedere sags badly in the back because it's rear leaf springs rusted through. Surprisingly, though, its four tires remained inflated on Thursday several months after being aired up for the first time in half a century.

Plans now call for Carney, his aunt Catherine Humbertson Johnson, 93, and mother Levada Humbertson Carney, 88, to return to Tulsa on Nov. 29 for a sort of bon voyage party for the Belvedere.

The car will be trucked to Foster's company, Ultra One Corp., in Hackettstown, N.J., for treatments with a degreaser and an acid-free rust remover made by Ultra One.

Foster knows some people want the car to be left untouched but said that's not practical.

"If nothing is done, it will be dust in two years," he said.

The intention, Carney and Foster said, is to bring the Belvedere back to Tulsa next year for a second unveiling. Enthusiasts will be able to follow the car's progress on Foster's Web site at http://www.missbelvedere.com/

Foster said portions of the car will be revealed on the Web site, but "no one will see the entire car until we bring it back here."

Foster said he is a "car person" who became interested in the Belvedere several years ago. When he saw the condition it was in, he recognized it as a chance to give his company "five minutes of fame."

Robert Carney's aunt, Catherine Johnson, and mother, Levada Carney, were declared rightful claimants to the car on Thursday. The two women are the sisters of Raymond Humbertson, whose entry in a 1957 contest to guess Tulsa's 2007 population came closest to the actual number.

Humbertson died in 1979 and his wife died in 1988. The couple had no children.

Foster and Carney hope to build a customized trailer for transporting the Belvedere to car shows around the U.S. and perhaps overseas. Both said Tulsa would always have first call for it.

"It is Tulsa's car, and it will always be Tulsa's car," Foster said.
............................................................................................................................

So looks like a Re-union may have to be June 2008 , Or is everyone Still set on going to the Car where ever it is in June 2009....

As much as I'd like to have you pay for a few of MY drinks, (not to say I wouldn't be happy to see yer smilin mug, too), I'd rather
meet up somewhere else, like Branson, Mo, (OR VEGAS!), especially if The Car will have been abused, by Ultra-Stupid (hey- now, there's a new name, for them!). But, if Ultra-None realizes that the car will not become magically-driveable, after being subjected to their Ultra- Make-over process, maybe they won't want the ugly-PR, and might say 'nutz' to the entire fiasco-to-be.

But, if you come-over from Jolly-Olde, I'm pretty sure that Jim Hoek(--endijk) will be able to come back here, from Nederland, for a bunch of Bench-racing/B.S. tournamenting, too!!!

I'm onboard!

Well, we should start planning for sometime early next fall (when the heat of the summer is past, and, that may allow time for
Ms. B's fate to become sealed, for worse, or worser....

The biggest problem is arranging a set date & locale--we had no choice, as far as Tulsarama is concerned: Be there, or be NOWHERE!

Actually, June 15th works for me, too---a lot of us had no problems with that date, this year! Problem is: 6/15/08 is gonna come-around,
real soon!

yes sir, seems like the weeks just blended all together after t-town. I cant believe that its November already. But like I said if I am still alive im there man. I think a reunion will be more fun then the event. Just because we could hang out more and not worry about all the other stuff going on at the same time, maybe plan some site seeing adventures for our group it's a blast to hit a small town with some Kool old cars the locals are always a real pleasure to talk to and the stories that the cars bring up. Kind of like over at stroud with Mr. Dave that was Kool but it was warm that day LOL

That's why I'm thinking Branson, or VEGAS----I hear there's NO "closing-time"/grumpy-old-Parking-guards at Vegas!!!!

I've been to the big-gnu casinos @ V-Town, so my suggestion would be to stay @ one of the "Glitter-Gulch" (old school) casinos, in downtown area.

Well, Vegas is 4+ hours from Bishop, and not real far from L.A., either.

I could drive there, with Horrie, but was thinking about modern transportation.

They have a NICE airport, there, folks! And, you can't get lost (although avoiding gridlock will involve AVOIDING Las Vegas Blvd!!!!)

I can see if we can get some group rate discounts in Downtown LV.  I have clients who used to own a few casino/hotels downtown and I still have some connections there.  And one of my clients own a new nightclub/restaurant/gaming in Henderson (going to the VIP opening on the 15th) that probably would enjoy a bunch of car nuts thrashing!

We can drink a TOAST, to Ms. Belvie (who WILL be in a state-of-Toast, by then!), @ Lost Wages.

I'm pretty-much in for anytime, next year; off-season would be nice (in Sept!), or June. Not too hot, then.

See what you can DO, Jay!!!!

4/15 is KNOT one of my favorite "holidays", either.

Seriously: end-of-summer gives most of us ample "warning", er, PLANNING!

Somewhere near Glitter Gulch should be fun (kinda like RENO, which is a SERIOUS
gambling venue) , but G.G. would be like "Crime Story" TV show, and kinda away from
the Tour-ons ...

Kinda like TULSA, actually, except for the 24 hr excitement, the drinking/debauchery, and
adult entertainment, and the 'lights'; but, you know: kinda like Tulsa.....

Hey MoparJimmy I have been wanting to go to the James Dean run for the past 7 years, and have not been able to make it yet. I actually have some family that lives in Marion, so the lodging would not be a problem, lol. I have heard it is awesome, isint there another show around that same time. I might be heading upto Marion the day after thanksgiving if I can get off of work that night, maybe if you are somewhat near there we could meet up and grab lunch or something one day.

Wherever this is held I strongly encourage one hotel to be chosen so everyone can park together and stay at the same place. Some of my favorite times from the whole Tulsarama event were in the parking garage where people were parked together, hanging out, coolers packed in the trunk (John) and people getting to know one another in person, share stories, show off their car(s), etc. Not to mention how cool it was to drive through the doubletree parking garage and see many fins, etc parked on multiple floors. It's as close as I'll ever get to living in the 50's. Had I known that was where the majority of folks were staying I would have stayed there too. As it turned out the hotel I picked was listed on one thread I saw.

Just my opinion

I agree Brendon.  Do we have a general idea on which month and part of month?  For me, its best to have it May, June, July, or the 2nd half of August, Sept. or October.  Those are not the heavy tax prep times for me.  Its up to you guys, but that works better for me.  If I get some ideas of dates, I can start asking around.

Whoa! You gonna give us the low-down on those DeSoto's after you get 'em back to your place, John?

Jay? Any way you'd consider a fellow Arizonan hitching a lift with you for the Vegas reunion? Split expenses and all that?

I don't see a problem with that Mark.  I'm hoping my CRL will be done enough for the trip.  Have to check with the boss, but I don't think she'll want to go.

Alright!!!!! If I won't be intruding on your family time, I'm in!!!!!

Wow, I didn't know that the '56 was that far along yet! In that case, I'll definitely break out my fedora for the trip.

Gotta tell you that I'm no mechanic by any stretch of the imagination, so I hope you have AAA or the like handy. Won't be able to chip in much outside of gas, split of hotel rooms, meals and that, but I won't cause any expense - outside of slightly worse gas mileage hauling my 6' 4" 245 pound butt up there & back. I know it's not like a cross-country trek or anything, but I can also pitch in with driving if you want.

Yeah, VEGAS sounds wonderful, but I'm afraid it would be too much of a stretch for my crew (not to mention any of my ForwardLook cars).
TULSA was just about the limit for driving to a car show, and flying into sin city wouldn't be nearly as much fun.
Of course, if I can't make it... I'm sure it won't really hurt anyone's feelings.

More central US would be better for peeps like myself on the eastern side of the country.
Topeka, Kansas looks like a best bet for EXACT CENTRAL U.S.... But what's there for car people???

Branson, Missouri and '57 Heaven would be IDEAL in my opinion.
Just a suggestion.

(Of course, Clive & Charlie will chime in here with "If we can flyacross the OCEAN, you can DRIVE to Vegas!... Yadda, Yadda, Blah-Blah & So Forth...)

Shoot Nathan, folks like John (Big M in his '57 Fury) drove all the way from the left coast for Tulsa - I'm sure you, still being a good deal west of the east coast, could slide over to Vegas given the time (next summer) between now and the reunion to prepare.

Then again, I'm hitching a ride. Which car would you take & exactly how far away is it from being set for a road trip?

At least I'm hopeful it will be ready by then Mark!  Its basically all stripped of trim and such, just waiting for someone to help and show me what to do on the bodywork.  Engine is in the machine shop and I'll hopefully be ordering those parts this week.  Wish I had a sand blaster here, would be real handy cleaning up the front frame.

Just got off the phone w/Ron Mog, & he & I are interested in driving our cars to El Lost Wages!

I DO like the idea of getting a hotel in the Glitter Gulch area, as opposed to the newer fancier areas of The Strip.

AAAND; THIS time: Jim Hoek just might be able to ship his '57 Dodge, to the You-Ess, from Netherlands, and drive IT to Vegas!

Jim had irreconcilable scheduling conflicts, and couldn't attend Tulsa, but, he HAS dead-serious about shipping it here
and driving it here, from Europe.

Maybe Jim can talk "Leif" Plester (of Fin-land) into driving one of his 57 Dodges to Vegas!

Crap! I lost a CD I engineered with a bunch of my old rock & roll/R&B 78's - yes, you read that right: not 45's, but 78's - featuring, among others, Dale Hawkins, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Red Prysock, Amos Milburn, Calvin Boze and Little Willie John. ZERO schmaltz. Still have the records and the turntable, but not the cartridge or the component CD burner.

Was gonna bring it along for the trip. I'll see what I can dig up - you dig hard driving, no BS big band swing?

I'd think the off-season is in the summer, Neil - probably starting in May and lasting 'til around October. The climate is similar to where I am (desert) and those are the deadest months here.

It's warmish where I live, too---howsabout the week AFTER Labor Day (that's the 1st Monday, in Sept), or , mid-June (yeah,
like the 15th----problem with JUNE is that we'd HAFTA start seriously planning, on that time, instead of justdreaming
about it.

One GOOD thing about 6/15-ish/08, is that we-all COULD make it to T-town, THIS year, so why not Vegas NEXT year.

Sounds like an appropriate date, Neil - seeing as this'll be a reunion. 1 year anniversary and all that. 5'll get you 10 that we could have our pick of hotels/meeting places during what's sure to be a relatively slow time of year

Jay, you think the '56 might be road worthy enough to make a 450-500 mile trek by then? I mean, even the mountainous part (just this side of Sedona to just outside of Flagstaff) is all interstate (I-17).....

I have sent 3 emails out to LV people I know and am awaiting some feedback.

I still need some rough numbers guys.  And how many dancing girls are needed!  How many of us will be traveling beyond the 50 mile rule? (just kidding guys, don't start panting yet!)

Mark, I don't see why my car couldn't be ready by then.  It may have upholstery thats not great, but mechanically, the motor rebuild should be done as well as brakes, tires, a/c, etc.  If the tranny needs a rebuild that may delay things but I'm hoping its okay.  It was rebuilt in 1987.  I'm stripping the body down right now and just need to get some body work done and a rocker replaced, and she'll be ready for paint.  Of course, I'll always take anybody's help or just BS if they want to come over to my place!  Haven't found any garage buddies around here yet.

It would be nice if we could get some SoCal boys to show up, in Vegas, too, and some PacNorwesters.

If they're afraid to drive their cars [DARE], they could fly to town, and rent a car, or take public transportation.

Maybe we could arrange to spend 4 nites there; any less and the event would be too short of a stay.

And, there is a LOT to see & do, in Vegas area.

The 5 nites in Tulsa went by REAL fast.

(the weather is still quite warm, in Vegas, in early fall).

When does the Off-Season begin???

Talk to us, sir!

I'll ask my father-in-law. He recently retired from the Convention Center's administrative staff.

Just got off the phone w/Ron Mog, & he & I are interested in driving our cars to El Lost Wages!

I DO like the idea of getting a hotel in the Glitter Gulch area, as opposed to the newer fancier areas of The Strip.

Just a reminder to people who haven't been here in years, the western end of Fremont Street to about Fourth Street is now a pedestrian mall with a canopy.

No more cruising Glitter Gulch.

That's why I'm thinking Branson, or VEGAS----I hear there's NO "closing-time"/grumpy-old-Parking-guards at Vegas!!!!

Because of the crime on eastern Fremont Street (Dope dealing, prostitution, etc.), security on the eastern section of Glitter Gulch is pretty tight.

They have a NICE airport, there, folks! And, you can't get lost (although avoiding gridlock will involve AVOIDING Las Vegas Blvd!!!!)

Paradise Road for heading north (actually Swenson between Tropicana and Harmon) or the 215 tunnel for east or west, and you should be fine.

Crossing the Strip on Trop or Flamingo isn't bad during "off" periods.

A "locals' trick":

Take Paradise south to Sunset, Sunset west to Las Vegas Boulevard, north on Las Vegas Boulevard to Russell and west on Russell to Decatur to avoid the really heavy Las Vegas Boulevard traffic between Tropicana and Downtown.

If you're heading east, Sunset, Russell or Tropicana works well during non-rush hour times, if you prefer surface streets to the 215.

If you are staying at a Strip resort, don't let a cabbie "tunnel" you, i.e., take you through the 215 tunnel allegedly to save time, but runs up the meter as it is a round about way to Las Vegas Boulevard.

I-15 works quite well for north-south travel, but getting to it from east of the Strip can be daunting....

Wow! They turned the strip into a pathway? I know it's been 17 years since my one and only trip to Vegas, but wow!

Would've been nice to see a caravan of FLs under all that neon.....

Jay, I'll level with you - I hope the digs ain't going to be too high brow. I'll be toting less than $1,000 and if this'll be lasting 5 days, well.....

I've got 3 folks looking into it, but I still need a rough room count and car count.  I'm oone, how many total do we think we have? 5, 10, 15?  It helps to know this when I'm trying to get us a good deal.

Well Mark, if we stay at the Gold Spike, its cheap....if don't mind the crack dealers in the parking lot! lol  Don't worry man, I think we can come up with something everyone can afford, I'm not rich either.  Though I'm not responsible for anyone's gambling habits! lol

The strip (Las Vegas Boulevard South) is alive, well and congested with cars.....it's Fremont Street in Glitter Gulch that was turned into a pedestrian mall.

Don't forget, the valley is dotted with "local casinos", away from the two resort corridors, where you can stay for reasonable rates.

But what do I know? I just live here!

LOL! Even on my one and only journey to Vegas in 1990, I didn't gamble - no worries at all there, Jay. I was born too close to Missouri.

A halfway decent bar might be another story.....

Nah, if we could end up splitting a $100 room ($50 a piece) for 5 days, I think I could swing it. Split the gas - or, say, if you cover the gas, I'll cover the eats - and alternate on the bar tabs. Either way, nothing too awful expensive, yet I'd prefer not to room in an establishment that rents their rooms by the hour.....

Thanks, Kenny. Definitely point us away from the money bags joints.

Say Kenny, if this all comes together and a bunch of us make it up there for the reunion, you going to slide down with your '59 Plymouth (?) Suburban?

If I have my engine swap done.

You may have to settle for my '66 Chevrolet pickup or my '68 Imperial Crown.

The wagon is isn't anything spectacular and is in need of a repaint. I am planning to detail the engine compartment, so even if I have the engine on hand, I'm not going to just install it. I want to tidy up some stuff I ignored back in 1986, when I had the car painted.

I think Miss Bevy's still gonna be in New Jersey with the Ultra One rust removal people at the time of the reunion, Clive. They initially said she'd be done by spring, but the way things have been pushed back so far, I'd say it'd be closer to fall - at least. So, yeah, I think this'll be a FL'ers only crowd.

Kenny, I'd slap the engine in her and bring her as she sits - she looks like a real survivor. :D

Survivor, my a**!

I went through much of that wagon back in the mid to late eighties. The paint is weathered and it has a few scars from parking lot encounters, but it looked good for quite a while:

http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/photos/photo-thumbnails.asp?album...

Suspension, brakes and driveline all freshened up. I can't afford a repaint any time soon as I plan to finish the V-8 conversion (including installing torsion bars from a car that had a 361), replacing the clear glass with Solex and adding A/C. I also have a rear disk brake kit to supplement the front disks I added, but I am not sure if I'm adding overdrive or not.

Rick ('Can Man) is selling his '58 Plymouth convertible and if he no longer wants my (long ago scrapped) '68 Charger R/T's Dana 60 (3.54 gears), I may freshen the Dana up, relocate the spring perches and use that in place of the stock differential with its 3.73 gears.

Rick was going to use the Dana in his convertible and was going to trade some parts with me.

Or perhaps someday, if I install a B/RB engine in my '59 two door wagon, I could use the Charger R/T's 18 spline A-833 and the Dana and have me a stock looking sleeper, which I would paint two tone '59 green.

Now that would be a car I'd like to bring to a Forward Look get-together!

Jay: 10+ rooms is a for-sure deal; Ron Mog & I make up 2-rooms; Cedric Plester is "on", from Fin-land, as, hopefully, is Jim Hoek, of Netherlands;there's Jimmy Johns, John Fowlie, and others from SoCal, plus Clive & Charlie double-dating, again.

Step 1 is finding a hotel-venue & deciding on a week-date; I suggest the week of 6/15, as that time frame was 'good', with all the Tulsa attendees.

This event would be a FWDLK get-together, and also a Tulsarama reunion!

Thanks, Jimmy. Actually, the wagon is pretty well known in both Spring Valley and the western area of the city. People on this side of town are used to seeing it....

There used to be a yellow and white '56 Dodge (six-stick) sedan that was used as a daily driver. Same thing....he drove it so much, it sort of "blended in" after a while. The guy moved to Southern Utah and took it with him.

There are casinos which are a-ways away from the Main-drag/Vegas-strip, but, just as for staying in Stroud, OK, in 2007,
the ACTION/fun will be within walking/mono-rail/tramline/bus/cab distance FROM the casino, instead of having to drive into/
out-of Vegas, with parking-traffic hassles, etcetcetcetc/inebriation.......

It is a HOOT, to be able to walk/stumble up to your room, at the end of a late-night's festivities, and, as charming as Boom-Town
casino might be, 10 miles off of the strip, the real fun is going to be at the epicenter of the weirdness, not just in Gambling
which can be easily-enuf done at Boom-Town (or in any grocery store, or even @ the airport--if you're just into slot machines).

I happen to think that Glitter Gulch would provide more of an old-school Mardi Gras environment, and might be easier to drive-to,
than the Big Palaces would be, farther down on the Strip (which are easily-enuf accessed by public transport.

Sooo, let's get this dog-and-auto show on ROAD!

I vote that we ALL pile-in at KennyJ.'s place for the weekend!!!!!

The way I see it, about 5 couples could share the Imperial... and another 3 couples or so could stay in the blue wagon...
Two or three more couples in the pickup, and Charlie & Clive can have the parts wagon all to themselves.
Anyone that's left can crash in Kenny's house... There's gotta be room for more there!
(See, this way... When we're all GONE again, Kenny can have the satisfaction of his house seeming MUCH bigger. Everybody Wins!)

Seriously, though... This does sound like a good time.
If I get the chance to make it out for this one, I'd vote for earlier in the month of June, or pehaps late May.
Maybe we can get a poll started for the best weekend... I missed my local club's show for Tulsa this year, and I might be black-balled if I ditch 'em for another road trip during show time.

Is anyone keeping a head count on this proposed Ree-union? From the level of enthusiasim (sp?) I'm reading it sounds like a blast. Only there are a couple of glitches. I could not make it to Tulsa ( but was there today!) for the Tulsarama. But I would like to be able to put faces and cars with the names I keep seeing on this site. The second is that the '55 RL probably will not yet be driveable in 06/08, and I'll have to haul ole whatsername in the '38 D8, and it don't have no fins on it. But it does have a 318/727 and a/c. Bsides, she wants to go to Fairbanks,AK nest summer, an' I don' wanna.

I meant "metaphorically" !!! As in cruise-the-area (on foot/public transport), which is the best way to get around The Strip.

There must be a neat hotel/casino in the immediate area---the Gulch has an overhead neon/strobe light-show which attracts the
rubes (I mean: TOURISTS!) to the old-school casinos in the vicinity; but, HEY: the Belagio's probably available (but, WAY too
dull, & formal, for me; I like the Il Fornaio restaurant, & Harry's Bar, @ New York, New York casino!)

I am getting some quotes from the California, Las Vegas Club (thats a last resort, unless they fixed the sewage smell inside!), Union Plaza, Fremont, and can't remember the 5th one, but I should have emails all back by tomorrow.  The problem is not all hotels have onsite parking, so you have to park in a structure away from the hotel.  I know the Union Plaza and the Las Vegas Club have parking at the hotel.  I know the head of security at the Union Plaza, which could probably guarantee decent security for our cars.  I have requested that our cars be allowed to park in a group, so we'll have to wait and see what they say.  I'm still waiting to hear back from another guy I know out there in the gaming industry, hopefully will get ot talk to him tomorrow as well.  I'm hoping he isn't pissed that I missed his Wine Lounge VIP Opening Night last Thursday, but my client couldn't make it and it was his helicopter we were going to fly to Henderson.

Neil whined and moaned about cruising in Tulsa, and then never moved his car!! Don't worry about Neil wanting to cruise in Vegas. It won't happen.

I must admit guys, I don't know if I can make Vegas. It's about 2200 miles each way. That would be pretty tough on the 57, and I'm not sure I want to try towing again. It would take 4 1/2 days to drive each way in the 57. That's driving 10 hours each day with an average time of 50 mph. That's about the reasonable average speed of my car.

I don't like Vegas much either, Brain... It's just about the same distance for me, too.
If this DOES materialize, I'd have to fly in to be a part of this reunion.

Do I wanna see Vegas? Hell Yeah... Do I wanna DRIVE there for the FL Reunion? Not a chance!

My initial vote was for '57 Heaven in Branson, MO... but nobody seems to like that idea anymore.
So, Vegas it is... I suppose.

I'm in for Branson. I can't spend almost 10 days driving for the reunion. Even if I were to leave the 57 at home, it's still at least 6 days of driving for Vegas.

I like you guys, but not nearly that much.

Hey Guys, I've been to Tulsa, I've been to Branson (more than I ever thought any sane person would want to go, but that was 40 years ago) Ive been to Toopeeka,KS frequently also. So any where in the Midwest/Central US of A should work. The one drawback when compared to Lost Wages is that there are only Indian Tribal Casinos in this part of the world, and the don't have the fancy floorshows. Just lots of slotmachines and antique malls.

Why doesn't somebody make a decision. It sounds like Jay is doing lots of leg work in L.V.

Sorry to join this so late. Neil just asked me if I was attending. Attending ? I didn't even know it was happening !

Is there a reason behind Vegas, as opposed to say, Albuquerque ? Driving Central Ave. (old 66) is a real time trip.

How about Chama, NM, where the old Rio Grande steam trains still run ? Incorporate something cool and old besides a giant FL car show ? A small venue may prove very accomodating to a tourista influx like this.

Vegas will be hot as hell. Personally, I am repelled by all the new and flash. Gambling is of no interest. Why Vegas ? At least Reno is close to the mountains and Tahoe. Both seem too far west for our east coasters anyway.

I am afraid I couldn't make it of held before August due to prior commitments, but it sure does sound like a great idea. Just imagine, a car gathering not involving street rods or Chevs ! Sweet !

Las Vegas is completely surrounded by mountains........and Lake Mead is nearby.

Boulder City is quaint in a 1930s sort of way and Mt. Charleston stays relatively cool year 'round.

It doesn't matter to me where y'all have the reunion, but I did want to set the record straight.

There are lots of places for cruises outside the city and to get away from Heat and traffic. Scenic routes up to Mt. Charleston and through Red Rock canyon. Lake Mead and the Hoover Dam are 20 minutes away.

For the folks on the East Coast.... This could be a nice opportunity to try and find some hidden Southwest rust free forwardlook treasures.

Reno is about the same distance from bishop, as is Vegas, 4 driving hours.

Reno is a GAMBLING town--no kids allowed.

VEGAS is like 24/7 Mardi Gras (at least: Glitter Gulch/old town is; the Biggies-section of the Strip
is like Disneyland, or OZ) .

I spent 3 driving days to get to Tulsa; why wouldn't I drive to Vegas (Brian?) . I didn't drive around Tulsa BECAUSE I DIDN'T HAVE TO: I stayed @ the Doubletree (remember? where I advised everybody to stay; not 50 miles away, in Stroud).

Same thing with Vegas: once you're there (flying in; cheaper & infinitely quicker than gas and-motels- on-the-road) you'll probably stay close to the 'Gulch', or, you can take public transportation (Mono-Rail, shuttle-trams or cabs or even a rental car anywhere
around town, or the area (like to Hoover Dam).

Either you like partying, or you don't.

IF you like partying, you can not beat the Vegas experience (except possibly at Mardi Gras).

The public transportation is pretty good downtown. While the Mono-Rail kinda flopped, it will only help you out while visiting "New Vegas" where all the new casinos are. Taxis can get pretty expensive but are readily available downtown. The best public transportation between new vegas and "glitter gulch" is the Deuce, a double decker bus. The cost to ride is $2 or you can get a pass for a day or two if you wanted to travel up and down the strip to check out the locations.

Just about every casino on the new part of the strip has a free show. Bellagio has a water show, Mirage has a volcano and a shark reef aquarium inside (costs a few bucks). Some of the more popular ones are Treasure Island with the pirate show, with women actors now instead of men .

Fremont street (Glitter Gulch), like Kenny said is now a pathway under a canopy. The canopy is the world's largest LED screen, spanning about three blocks. A cool thing to see for first time visitors.

For people interested in gambling, I would recommend hitting local casinos away from the Strip. That is if you want to significantly increase your odds of walking out of the casino with more money than you went in with.

Again, like Kenny said, Vegas isn't all about gambling and prostitution. There are lots of things to do and places to meet up.

I dont know , a gathering/ reunion isn t much fun Ifn you don t bring your car . Theres always Mardi Gras in Feb or March , down here but thats still way out of the way for most people . Down here , there is always a cruise nite somewhere within 20 to 50 miles year round . And then in Oct , ther is Crusin the Coast , with any where from 4000 to 6000 cars attending which is week long , 2 to 3 days from westcoast , 10 to 12 hrs from eastcoast/Carolinas I got connections and could arrange some stuff to do . Weather down here is mild in the fall and winter , compared to what some of you guys go thru up north . Just an idea to ponder . I ve read most of these posts , and from the sounds of it ya ll are set on these hot months to travel , all these old cars can t handle the heat of all day driving at interstate speeds , wouldn t it make sense to do this in a cooler time of the year like Fall . I didn t make it to Tulsa , but I m determined to put faces with these names . Hopefully I can meet some of you that make me feel tame , that ll be hard to do . I say leave all the wives home , they ll throw a Monkey wrench into the mix , Well the little thing I took to help me slleep iss kiking in , gotta go dodo .

Fall is great in Las Vegas, except you may encounter road salt usage in mountain passes along I-70, I-15 and I-80 in various locations, i.e., Colorado, Utah, Idaho.

I'd like to know why (unless you have an extremely geared down differential) "these old cars can't handle the heat of all day driving at interstate speeds"?

I could hold my 283 '59 Impala all day at 70-75 during summer treks up to Salt Lake City or down to Southern California on I-15, through the mountains, etc. I found stop and go summer rush hour traffic with the A/C on to cause the older engines to run warmer than usual. Not overheat.

The only older vehicle I had that didn't "like" sustained high speed driving was my '68 3/4 ton C-20 pickup. But with a SBC, 4.56 gears and A/C, a steady 75 mph was Hell on that engine.

Back in July when it was 116 degrees outside I was driving my 66 Chrysler 300 383ci with the A/C crankin the whole time. The car stayed nice and cool while driving and ran a little warm while stopped at a light or in traffic. I have also drove several 60's era fords in the same weather conditions. As long as the car is moving and air being forced through the radiator any car with a standard cooling system should do fine. It's the stop and go traffic that seems to give the cooling system problems. Here in the desert it's an easy fix most of the time, a fan shroud and an overflow bottle. If it is still running warm we just pull the thermostat out during the summer months.

I have never had to pull the thermostat, Gary.

As you said, it's stop and go driving, And at night, even that is a non-issue.

Kenny , what I was refering to , is the fact that not everyone 's cooling system is up to par . Some people just have to plunk down the cash , others can t figure out what the problem is . My engine is rebuilt , my cooling system works fine , average 180-195 with no a/c . I know guys with pristine cars with cooling issues . And I was basing that on the way the the LV heat is talked about , 100 deg plus . You mentioned road salt in the fall , yikes. Currently I m running 3:54 gear , but for a long trip I d swap in a 2:76 .

I've heard that some of the Mopar engines from this era were assembled at the factory with a lot of casting sand left in their blocks. I don't know if that is true, but if so, it may contribute to running hot in an extreme desert climate. I would think a rebuilt engine's block would have been cleaned well enough to eliminate this problem.

Also, an engine bored to the extreme limits may run considerably warmer in our climate than elsewhere. Thin wall SBCs tend to run warm in our climate if they are more than .030 over and the cooling system isn't perfect.

As for the salt......not in Las Vegas, though some morons throw water softener salt into low spots in parking lots where water collects during winter (which virtually everybody swerves around.) The city and county don't use salt, though some well meaning citizens have tried to salt the occasionally icy intersection.

I meant in fall, when various mountain passes start having snow and freezing rain at higher elevations. This would be on the way to Las Vegas during late autumn.

As for Nevada, a state trooper told me they use road salt in the Reno-Carson City-Sparks area during winter.

I'm using a 15 room/car figure right now trying to get some room rates and such.  I think once we get feedback from Nathan's poll, we can start to get things a little more formalized.

I'll have to gleefully decline on the reunion now, Jay - but it's for a darn good cause.

Gotta dive right into saving every penny I can lay my hands on now. John ("big m" here) rescued - among 4 other DeSotos - a 1955 DeSoto Fireflite Coronado 4 door sedan last month and every spare cent I grab is now going towards it!!! God-willing, I'll have her by this time next year/early-mid 2009, all set to dive in head-first.

So, I guess could say I'm pausing for the cause - a 52 year old turquoise/black/white, 126" wheelbase cause.

Guess it's about time to change my moniker - wish me luck, folks.....

No problem Mark.  Sounds like you've got a good cause going there.  Does it run?  Got pics?  Is that one of those John posted not too long back?  Can't remember the thread.  You can't go wrong dealing with John, he'll do ya right.  We'll see ya in 2009 then.  And hey, doesn't mean you can't make it over to Scottsdale and BS sometime.

A hell of a good cause, Jay.

Yeah, it's one of the 5 DeSotos that John swooped in and rescued last month. He says the engine turns, but it's not running yet. Apparently, the old guy that passed had had the original 291 cid Hemi rebuilt, then lost his driving ability shortly after. Here's some pics that John took - first two are on the trailer fresh from Oregon, last two are the day after when he washed her off. Unbelieveable! John says all the chrome and brightwork is pit free and excellent - she's a real beaut! :

Hi All.
I was cruising the Tulsarama threads to see if anything ever happened re a reunion. Found this thread--- maybe there's a more updated one? What's the latest on any kind of Tulsarama or Forward Look reunion?
I still think about what a ~great~ time I had at Tulsarama......boy is it hard to explain that one to people who really don't get the whole "old car thing", much less the Buried Belvedere Unearthing.... . People just kinda glaze over and go "uh, yeah, huh...sounds uh, like fun".

Anyone still considering a big Vegas (or elsewhere) get-together? I was so close to attending Viva Las Vegas 13, this past April, but elected to go to a different weekend event that was scheduled for the same weekend. I'm pretty settled on going to Viva Las Vegas 14.......huuuuuuuge rockabilly, music, rat rod, hot rod, kustom, etc weekend. Jerry Lee Lewis is playing....God willing.

Hey, Dave!

Too bad Ms. Belvie isn't enshrined in T-Town.

Wonder if we could get any Europeans to come? They don't like to drink, too much , but they can get D & D, back at home.

Gotta find a gud reason to get them to hop onto the Mayflower or the Norseman or even the MS Athena (nee: Stockholm)
and get their (huddled-m)asses over here.

It would have to be Las Vegas if it was to be this year for me.  Gotta spend money going to the Hudson Nationals this year in Spokane, WA and Disneyland for our son.  That really has blown our vacation budget out the windows!
