Even in cases where the bellhousing pattern is the same (in other words, fitting a '62-up 727 to a pre-'62 crank-equipped A or B V8),an adapter is needed because the pre-62 flanges protude farther from the engines than the 62-up flanges. In the case of A and B engines such adapters ('spacers') will usually have to be custom-machined,but for Early Hemis there are many premade spacers available for different applications (Torqueflite, GM autos,A-833 4-spd. manual, other manuals)
