teflon grease (white) is the best grease you can buy. when i bought my 60 fury 16 years ago i refilled the ball&trunion (and wheel bearings,etc)with teflon grease. i'm pretty sure no one ever repacked it before (140K miles back then). and the original "grease" looked like you described it. i change the grease every 3 years and never had any problems (270+k miles now). properly serviced ball&trunion joints last forever.
