i use a small air jig saw "my favorit toy" and a die grinder to cut out the old stuff. then i lay the new metal or pan in and mark where it attaches to the frame or sub-frame. then i drill 3/8 holes in the new pan every 2 or 3 inches in the spots i marked. then i lay the pan back in place and push the pan down to the frame and hold it while i weld in the hole like a spot weld. next i weld every few inches around the outside edges. when its all done i brush on rust kill wherever i welded. after that dries i brush on the body and seam sealer and paint. its fun rewarding hard work. good luck and take your time.
