Have you thought about having a spacer machined to put between the crank and the TC? Years ago I bought a 300F Chrysler that had the original 413 engine and a B&M Hydrostick transmission. That is a 4 speed automatic for drag racing. It was installed by B&M in the early 1960's. To mate the torque converter to the engine, there was a spacer, the same diameter as the end of the crankshaft and about an inch thick. It was made of some alloy like aluminum. I think that might be easier to do than shave the bellhousing.
