Not knocking nitrocellulose lacquers for shine and color depth. But they were generally hard to apply (probably worse than Imron in some respects), and if the shop was not well ventilated, eveybody got a good buzz from it, if the shop didn't blow up! I still is a very good paint, although because of storage and formulation issues, it costs like rip! But you are correct that having a pro paint a vehicle these days correctly, you are looking at around $5K for the job. It is labor intensive, and these old vehicles most of the time need some body sculpting to get all the age wrinkles out.
