Fins59 (may I call you "Fins"?) You do NOT need to lose your rear tapered axle; just LOSE (replace) the hubs' swaged-studs, with standard 'shouldered' studs (@ any good parts store). This change-over (once you "FINALLY" remove the rear drums) allows the drums to 'fall-off' the axle, just like any other 'modern' axle! This is the dirtiest-kept secret, in the MoPar world, TTBOMK.
