Peter...Sounds like it may have been a passenger vehicle engine converted for marine usage. If you get a chance, get the engine ID stamping off the front edge of the valley cover. May be a 354 Saratoga/Windsor engine, if your displacement is correct. There WERE some 5.2L (318CID) poly marine engines in the early 60s.
