On my 1956 DeSoto (and I believe 1957 Coaxials to be similar) I had to remoive the column assemvly as a complete unit through the firewall/floorpan access hole. Then remove the steering wheel assembly, and slide the metal column cover up and off the shaft extension. At this point you can gain access to the drive pin that holds the shaft extension to the input shaft of the coaxial assembly. Drive this out and now you have just the coaxial assembly available to work on. Reassembly is basically operations in reverse.
