If the gold inserts are original and "perfect" you should absolutely not paint them. Mopar Mel has reproduction silver trim inserts you could use to replace the original ones if that is what you really want. Go to www.moparmel.com and look under his "products" page. Be advised that they are not cheap, which is why you shouldn't damage the originals.
