As I recall, when you pull the push buttom assembly you'll find that there is a small round switch on the side that is for the backup lights. Check for continuity and power to the switch. There is a possibility that the contacts (reostat) in the front of the headlight switch may be corroded. A little electrical contact cleaner sprayed on them may take care of dash light problem.
