Hi Paul, When I was a mechanic, I never understood why Chrysler engineers dreamed up the L hand and R hand stud nonsense. Having dealt with Mechanical Engineers most of my life since, I've come to the conclusion that a fair percentage of them lack common sense. All it did was increase Chrysler's inventory and distribution costs with zero benefit. As for bolts, an Engineering 101 student would soon learn that higher clamp forces are possible with the stud as opposed to a bolt. You don't see main bolts on a 6,000 hp engine (or any other high performance engine for that matter) for this very reason. Lug bolts and left hand threaded studs was surely engineering run amuck.
