Flat black neoprene works just fine. Swap meets usually have somebody selling same in several thicknesses. Easiest way is to use a french curve or else variety of tin cans to make your curve radii. Do this onto like 1.5 inch wide masking tape. THEN tape that to flat sheet metal (ends of those tin cans works ok if the ribs are not bad). THEN use tin snips and flat file to make a metal templete. NOW lay it onto the neoprene and use snapoff utility knife and trace around it. Eliminates the oddball snips and glurps that scissors gives.
