I did that ONCE. Bought a 1987 Range Rover in 1997 for the STEEP price of $3000.00 (YES, it neede work, but the body/frame/drivetrain was in good condition. Motor was blown --- but, hell, its an old Buick 215, so parts are plentiful and cheap!) Wife had a cow when she first found out, but after showing her what it was worth versus what I paid, the old "smart shopper" embedded in her took over, and I was off the hook. You just need to convince her of the latent value of your possessions. That and NEVER do it again before at least consulting her. Remember, its always easier to ask for forgiveness than permission, except with the wife!
