John.... I can answer this for for Lee. He needs a "immaculate?" steering wheel for his work, as he plans to pull a mold of the wheel for building his injection mold. Also, Chrysler wheels are different than DeSoto wheels, so he would need one of each for a mold to do both wheels. I have a similar "core" to your wheel. Save it, since you will eventually need that core for the remolding process after the original plastic is removed and the steel cleaned and pickled. I know of ONE "perfect" 1956 DeSoto Steering wheel that the NDC '56 Model Year coordinator has, but so far he is very reluctant to release it to Lee for mold trnsfer purposes. I will keep trying on that item. For a Chrysler wheel in "perfect?" condition, there was a gentleman selling one on this For Sale forum site that I had contacted about acquiring for Lee, but that was before I found out the the Chrysler and DeSoto wheels were different. Mybe he still has it?
