Adam...... rarely do I answer anything seriously, but since you ask: This spin thing is (as you probably already know) called the Coriolis effect. It is a "statistical tendency" rather than an absolute, so that you can get rotation in either direction in both hemispheres, it's just that in the northern hemisphere CCW dominates, and in the south, CW dominates. On the equator, or actually throughout the tropics, distribution is random, i.e. 50:50. Barfingly boring really.
