Joe...Two things hold those shfts in besides the accumulated gunk. The head bolts go into notches in the integral stand assemblies, so they have to be removed. Then somewhere under the crud on the lower side of the second stand pedistal is a tapered plug. One each head. Remove that, and the head bolts, and the shafts "slide" out. Previous term used tongue-in-cheek due to the varnish and crud you are going to scrape off getting those shafts out. I suggest a length of small diameter rod and a plastic mallet!
