Behind the pedals!? No way! That 'dash plaque' was always on the dash, either on, or near the glove box door. Look at it 'this' way, if you paid $3k + for a car in '58 (probably equal to $35K + today) would you want your name/dash plaque hidden in an obscure place? I figure you/everyone else would want it where each time a passanger got in for a 'ride', you would point and say, "Lookey here, they built this car especially for me!" "See, there is 'my' name!" ;-) Bragging rites.
