Well, I guess I'm not very observant. I already have "Mother Mopar's" build card from the historical society. On this card, it very plainly gives the original engine number--I don't know why I didn't notice it! It has a stamped "P31" followed by a handwritten engine number, XXXXXX. So, I guess the mystery is solved. It was an original 301 V8. Someone must have decided to "soup it up" early in it's life and thus it has a rather weird combination of "vintage" engine components. Too bad, I was hoping it was an original V-800. Oh well, it's still an interesting package and will make an unusual example! Thanks for the help.
