As to your question about authenticity that is a very personal choice. You have to decide if your car is perhaps a rare collectable car or is it just a fun and cool old car you like and want to drive rather have it sit in the garage. What makes YOU and your family happy and safe? Lots of car guys seem to only have the ability to criticize what other people have done instead of just letting someone enjoy what they have. I am definitely putting a three point belt in our 56 2 dr as it will be my son's first car and he is worth more than all the opinions in the world.
