No doubt....I've seen many original generator cars with A/C and no problem. Certain compressors draw more amps than others. GM's old A-5 compressor (circa 1955-'61) was a real power hog. I suppose a modern, more efficient compressor wouldn't tax a generator charging system too much. But sometimes we hobbyists tend to load our cars up with A/C, high power stereos, etc. and engage in activities such as cruise nights or parades. Using all that amperage at low RPMs is what can tax a generator system.
