My opinion is, I don't think it was jury rigging. Some cars were built with radios from the factory and having been so, the right fender(Chrysler case) was chosen for the mounting. However, one does not know that maybe this left fender came from a junked car. From which it did not come with a factory radio and hence, mounted the antennae on the left fender when the owner decided he did want a radio. (This being the owner of the junked car) That to me is a more resonable explanation than anything else.
