I still have not resolved this problem. When I start the car, the temperature gauge needle jumps up to the lowest position on the "cold" side (as it should.) It never moves from there no matter how hot the engine becomes. I have tried new, used, N.O.S. sending units, used and N.O.S. temperature gauges, new ground straps on the engine and the car has a new engine/dash harness. Everything is hooked up according to the shop manual diagrams and the way other '59 Plymouths I have looked at are connected. The unit is getting juice and the polarity is correct. What am I overlooking?
